1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.

  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

Old laptop got boosted. Wasn't updated for 6 years. Microslop tried to install Win11, then said buy new hardware, then tried to install anyway. Didn't worked. Zorin OS works great. Will also try out Lint Cinnamon, Cachy, Pop and some Arch.

your PC is monitored and protected

why does that sound like a veiled threat

    Fedora+i3 brrrrrr

    [–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 hours ago

Is it named after Max Zorin?

    [–] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Loving Zorin. I have Zorin on my second desktop and mint on my laptop.

Ah yes, Minux Lint. Great distro.

I just wish everything wasn’t upside down. Its very confusing to use the mouse.

If you can't do a handstand, you're not worthy of Minux.

how is everything upside down? is this some meme I'm unaware of?

Someone misspelled Linux Mint and we're all making jokes at their expense

    Just flip your monitor. Ezpz

Nice. Zorin has quickly become my favorite distro. Has exactly what's needed out of the box, caters to practically anyone, smooth and easy to use. They do such a great job.

Zorin is where I landed. Mint was very ugly in my view and the GUI β€œapp store” for it was missing key programs I wanted. Zorin’s has had every program I want to install so far. Mint did β€œjust work,” but Zorin did too.

FYI You can add more repositories to Mint's manager. I do wish it included more out of the box but I suppose it's faster as-is.

don't bother distro shopping. if it's mainstream and has updated packages the only thing you lose by changing distros is time. almost everything u want can be done in your distro.

    I use arch, btw

    [–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

If you want to game in it, check out Cachy, maybe.

    Otherwise, no point distro hopping.

You can check out his the others look/work btw at Distrosea

I just put Linux Mint Cinnamon on an old MacBook and it's running pretty well. I had an SSD that I could use and an extra RAM (total of 3GB now), and it made all the difference. Planning to get two 4GB RAM cards to max it out, yay for old memory that's still cheap.

Was running just the 2GB original, original HDD, and LM XFCE, and it "worked", but it was painful.

    [–] nothingcorporate@lemmy.today 2 points 9 hours ago

Great distro! Pretty and most everything just just works.

I got Q4OS on a 20 year old machine. Runs flawlessly

    [–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Q4 is amazing at reviving older machines.

Linux Mint is definitely a plus, as it is easy to use and more free than Ubuntu and definitely more free than Zorin. It's also vintage enough to run on older computers just fine, though I recommend MATE or XFCE spin for the RAM poor
