I love how they don't even mention they'll lock out anyone who didn't install it on an NTFS drive like every other Forza game.

[–] LwL@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Does the steamdeck use NTFS? That would seem like a very strange decision, and it does explicitly mention steamdeck support.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Idk mate...Thwy state pretty clearly that only Windows10/11 are supported as an OS.
Supported being the key word here. Nobody forces you to comply with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Just don't expect support when something doesnt work)

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 hours ago

I believe that even if you're running Windows, if you installed the game on an ExFat drive, it would refuse to launch.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago

Playground Games also says that the Steam Deck and the ROG Xbox Ally will be supported...

Steam deck getting NTFS bois!!

[–] Tarambor@lemmy.world 0 points 8 hours ago

Probably because it never happened. I take it you're unaware that FAT32 has a file size limit?

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cool to see Intel on the recommended graphics cards

[–] Linken@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Agreed! I’ve definitely got my eye on them for my next GPU upgrade (someday)

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No interest in the game but I do appreciate the notes giving expectations on performance there.

[–] Sineljora@sh.itjust.works 0 points 9 hours ago

Please no games for New Gaza! Boycott Microslop

[–] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Looks like my 3070 is finally coming up against the wall. Only other game that made it chug was Oblivion Remastered. Maybe I should have gotten a 9070XT when they were $530... ah well.

It's literally still above the requirements for high graphics at over 60 FPS. I assume this is not even considering DLSS or frame gen, which would double performance.

Consoles are the base experience. On Series X, Horizon 5, which is 5 years old, runs at the equivalent of medium graphics settings at best, with resolution scaling. Performance mode for a constant 60 makes even more compromises. Horizon 6 will likely be worse.

3070 is crushing that, you're good. For a while in fact. And that's just assuming you're playing only brand new games.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Don't consoles include dynamic render resolutions?
And they are also more optimized to run on that hardware vs the general compute targets you can program your API calls to.

So just saying the RTX-something is equal in every scenario is a bit of a stretch.

[–] BladeFederation@piefed.social 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Yes they do, which I said above.

Yes they are more optimized, that's how they are able to keep up as well as they do. A 3070 completely blows away the current console gen specs wise. Due to optimizations, it is a lot closer than it looks on paper but 3070 is still ahead by a sizeable margin.

I'm not here to shit on consoles. I said they are the base experience. The "good enough" experience. If OP's card is outdoing that by a significant amount still, he doesn't need to upgrade. If he's getting the same performance of consoles, that's still good enough. If he's starting to dip below consoles, maybe consider buying a new GPU or CPU, or maybe just get to more of your backlog for a while. Realistically he's got around 4 more years, maybe more the way pricing for electronics will affect how fast requirements go up.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 7 hours ago

Don't quite believe a 3070 outperforms a PS5 (is the peo a thing?) or the series X.
But I also havent looked into it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For anything else: True dat ;)

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Now I wanna know where an Xbox Series X lands in those requirements. All I know is it has 16GB of RAM. I don't know where its CPU and GPU fall, though.

I probably won't buy the game. It looks fun, but I never got much into the Forza Horizon games. I think they are worth playing, but I'm real picky about driving games. I played a bit of Horizon 5 because I had GamePass at the time. When it was $15, it made sense. Since it's doubled, it no longer does. Maybe if they let you keep a game every 1-3 months, I could see it, but without ever owning any of the games... nah.

FH1 was absolutely brilliant. Combined with a racing wheel, it genuinely felt like the Forza Motorsport series had been let loose, literally.

Each subsequent FH release has just been... cool, I guess? The next four iterations weren't really groundbreaking and it felt like map packs than new games.

The soundtrack has consistently been absolutely banging though

[–] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

To be fair, in driving games, you dont really want to be changing a whole lot about the driving model once everyone agrees its perfect. Good driving mechanics are always good, and bad driving mechanics are always bad. The only thing worse than bad driving mechanics is when the previous game had perfectly fun driving physics and the next game changed it, making it objectively worse.

Which happened to Need for Speed. A fun arcade racer with predictable physics, Underground 2 had perfected the driving model Black Box had made. Slidey enough to make entering a drift feel easy and controllable, but still predictable enough to master over time. Then in Most Wanted they changed the driving model and added insane amounts of grip for some reason, making the driving model feel more like Mario Kart. Then every game after that one got progressively worse, until we land at the absolute bottom of the barrel games made by Criterion, who make all their driving models feel like they came from a mobile game with tilt controls. Like Unbound.

I dont believe a driving game with good and fun driving mechanics needs to really change anything other than the map, music, and adding cars for subsequent games.

[–] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

I have no idea what the soundtrack is outside of hospital music, as I never change it

[–] TrustedTyrant@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The soundtrack has consistently been absolutely banging though

While the set list is great it annoys the hell out of me just how much they censor the songs. I understand taking out actual curse words considering the rating (but then why choose that song to begin with) however in 4 they started censoring more than just that. They censored god in the line “play out playing god” and high in “I’m flying high, on the wings of a wasted life” just as a couple examples and there’s plenty more.

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

Same word, different situation entirely, but I've long been used that the radio edit for Panic at the Disco's I Write Sins... Was always "haven't you people ever heard of, closing the g*d damn door"

[–] Sunspear@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Haha I remember in 3 the Chvrches song 'Never say die' has the titular 'die' quietened out all through the song

It weird, why include the song itself if you're gonna censor out part of its title line anyway

[–] BladeFederation@piefed.social 1 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

The graphics are better, new & more cars, some new event types, physics improve. It's released infrequently enough that it allows the game to breathe and make you want more. Yeah it's pretty similar, but like where do you go with the open world concept to evolve? I really don't know. Add more of a story?

[–] Die4Ever@retrolemmy.com 4 points 1 day ago

RIP Radeon 5000 series? maybe this game needs mesh shaders or some other DX12U feature?

[–] peacefulpixel@lemmy.world -5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

i wish these games were good:(

[–] vodka@feddit.org 2 points 7 hours ago

I haven't been able to get into Horizon since 3, they've all just.. Felt like the same game as 3.

And 3 had Blizzard Mountain, which imo is still peak Forza Horizon.

[–] peacefulpixel@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

the downvotes... i just miss how much fun the Forza Horizon series used to be, it's not like there aren't reasons to dislike it. gamers are fucking weird

[–] LwL@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Maybe because it's an unreleased game, so regardless of dislike for previous iterations you can't really judge it.

Also there's a difference between "I wish these games were good" and "I wish I liked these games". Like no shit you're going into a thread only interesting to people that like a series and say "the series sucks" completely unprompted, adding nothing of value. Of course you'll get booed out of the room.

[–] 956@piefed.social -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe I just don't know how my system is in context, but it's cool to see it would comfortably fit in the Extreme RT category. Didn't peg a 9070xt for that performance spec, but I won't complain.

Won't be on Horizon anyway, shit is....bad imo, for a big racing fan. The driving just kinda sucks, and such an emphasis is placed on off-road driving, you'd think it would have any kind of emphasis placed on how it feels and handles. But nope, shit is just....bad. I don't expect 6 to improve in any meaningful way either, because why would they need to? The hype is insane simply because Japan and Cherry Blossoms.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Horizon 5 rallying feels great, but only on long-travel suspensions that don't bounce over the road like a cartoon.

Try the RJ Anderson #37 Pro2 truck, give it 4WD, soften the suspension/tires, fatten the rear tires and take it on that downhill mountain course. It's utter bliss. I also like the Ford Ranger T6 on flatter courses, and the Rally Fighter for RWD fun.

...But yeah, FH5 is too arcadey. Cross country is just miserable outside of the slowest class. The campaign is so sycophantic and stupid, and MP matchmaking racing is utterly broken. I'll probably skip 6 too.

[–] 956@piefed.social 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Forza just kinda lost its racing appeal, I think. The settings are great, the visuals are great, the vibe is usually good, if a bit corny, but Forza has just turned into a hardware showcase with a good-if-dated physics model there. I don't think anyone is playing Forza Horizon because the racing is great, and that is kinda the crux of my issue with it.

Which sucks, cause I played the HELL out of FM2, FM3, especially FM4, and they have just kinda coasted since. The most recent Motorsport was supposed to boast some robust online ranked racing, and it was the most measly ranked system in existence, penalties weren't consistent, and the game has basically died out, even as of 2024.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Yeah. Motorsport should have been right up my alley but… what the heck are they doing with MP?

Last I played, the only half-usable race was the mixed class one, as it was medium length instead of short. It meant soft tires weren’t the uber-end-all meta, that the start isn’t such an apocalypse, and that one troll who knocks you off doesn’t end your whole race because it’s like 3 laps. And that you actually have time to pass.

I think they did away with it, and with no reason to touch the SP campaign with the stupid AI… I just quit? Kinda with the feeling you get after mediocre fast food. “Why did I eat that?”

Which sucks, as some of the cars are so much fun. I love the can am monsters, the ancient Le Mans cars, the quirky supercompacts and such, all sharing a circuit. What a waste.

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works -4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If they require winslop then I sure as fuck won't be buying it.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 13 points 1 day ago

It has "play on Steam Deck" so I guess they will ensure you can run it on Proton.
