Israeli forces have killed a Palestinian couple and two of their children as they drove in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health authorities, with the Israeli military saying the incident is under review.

Ali Khaled Bani Odeh, 37, his 35-year-old wife Waad, and two of their children – Mohammad and Othman, aged five and seven, respectively – were shot in the head in the village of Tammun on Sunday. Two of their other children were wounded by shrapnel, according to Palestinian health authorities.

Speaking to the Reuters news agency at the hospital, Khaled, 12, one of the two surviving boys, said he heard his mother crying, his father praying, but no voice of any of his other brothers before silence prevailed after shots sprayed the car.

“We came under direct fire; we didn’t know the source. Everyone in the car was martyred, except my brother Mustafa and me,” the boy said.

He said soldiers, who pulled him out of the vehicle before beating him, shouted: “We killed dogs.”

Once again, the dehumanization of the enemy and committing atrocities are inextricably linked. People really need to stop doing that.

[–] dnub@piefed.social 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

We should start to dehumanize the attackers, take their "we are victims" card.. not even dogs deserve to be killed for no reason, are they related to plastic doll noem? F'ing pieces of shit

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca -3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

And here we start dehumanizing them. How do you think this works better than enforcing the rule of law and having these people face justice? Do you prefer to have your country descend into barbarism? Because this is how you do it.

[–] dnub@piefed.social 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

enforcing the rule of law? you know bibi has an arrest warrant from ICC since november 2024, right? do you think these people respect or abide by that? you sweet summer child..

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca -3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

"Oh, look, those people aren't obeying the law! If we do things as bad as their worst, things will get better!"

Do you think the Germans would have surrendered if they were certain that every thing they had done to the Jews would be visited on them? Why wouldn't they fight to the last man, causing each side to pay in millions more deaths?

Netanyahu can be stopped without committing atrocities. Committing atrocities in return just means neither side will have any incentive to stop. The rules of warfare aren't there to protect the weaker side, they're there to give an alternative to fighting until one side or the other is utterly destroyed. And if your response is, "Well, I'm okay with destroying all the fascists," then you first have to identify all the fascists. This isn't something simple like blue eyes or straight hair. Even if you could kill every fascist, that still wouldn't mean that you couldn't have more. The belief isn't genetic.

W8 w8 w8.. I'm just in favor of going the wood chipper route for the top brass and soldiers who were caught saying things like "we just killed dogs", see what happens next, i would assume that in general shit behavior from israel would stop. I'm not saying that all the people of Israel should go to the wood chipper, there are plenty of people that protest and are against the current way of Israel government

plus, you should really come to terms with the idea that some people in the world are really bad and respect nothing but force, putin is one clear example, do you think you can come to terms with him without force? angela merkl serve him and his friends (oligarchs) a full plate by building the pipeline for russian oil/gas to supply central europe, it was the deal of a lifetime, guess what? they accumulated wealth for some years and then shit on the plate and now he's playing imperialist sending all his people into the meat grinder and now even recruiting foreigners -.-

also, germans surrendered because hitler committed suicide when his capital was surrounded with no escape and his soldiers were still dying on the streets defending said capital, they didn't go to the last soldier but got close to it

we can kid ourselves and think everyone is empathetic and sensible, but unfortunately that's not the truth, some people are murderers/egomaniacs/warmongers who only understand force.. these need the guillotine or wood chipper

Yeah, it's not okay to commit atrocities on war criminals, or any other criminals, either. There are more humane ways to kill people if that's what is going to be done. Torturing them before or during isn't necessary or helpful.

I'm more than okay with using necessary force to deal with bad actors. But do you honestly think if you say to Putin or Netanyahu, "If you don't stop we're going to strip you of wealth, power and freedom," is going to have noticeably less impact than saying, "If you don't stop we're going to strip you of wealth, power and freedom, as well as torture you when we kill you?"

As for the German surrender, 1.5 million Axis soldiers surrendered in a single month before Germany surrendered. 800k German soldiers surrendered in the four months prior to Germany's surrender. How likely do you think that would have been if word got out (and it would) that surrender led to summary execution, let alone torture?

Again, I've never said force, war, or death aren't options for dealing with atrocities. I said atrocities shouldn't be. And atrocities start with dehumanizing your enemies.

It was a slow boil over decades...

They shouldn’t be killing dogs either! WTF is wrong with these psychopaths?

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Religion is a monstrous evil.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 28 points 6 months ago (2 children)

True, but that's not relevant here.

Israel doesn't commit genocide because Jews and Muslims can't get along. Israel commits genocide because it's a fascist apartheid state.

Apartheid South Africa used religion as one of their "reasons" for treating nonwhite people as subhuman too, but no reasonable person would claim that THEIR countless atrocities were primarily caused by religion either.

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Its genocidal ideology is rooted in religious fanaticism.

Incidentally, all fascism works just like religion, except by sanctifying the state with iconography and dogmas of demagoguery and rebirth.

Fascism is a kind of religion, and the organized variety of the latter softens up the population for the former.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Its genocidal ideology is rooted in religious fanaticism

No, it's rooted in the political ideology of colonialism. There's significant overlap, sure, but that DOESN'T make colonialism a religious thing.

In fact, Israel is an excellent example of how irreligious the foundation of colonialism is: even though the religion is different than those of other colonial projects, the basic justifications, deflections, and modes of government are essentially similar.

If colonialism had been about religion, Jewish supremacist apartheid would have been MUCH more different than the Protestant and Catholic white supremacist colonialism og the past.

Incidentally, all fascism works ~~just like~~ somewhat similarly to religion

Fixed it for you. While there's far too much overlap for comfort, there are still significant differences between a religious cult and a political cult such as Fascism

by sanctifying the state with iconography and dogmas of demagoguery and rebirth.

Not really, no. It's more about collapsing state authority, religion, societal norms, and bogeymen into one easy to inhale but extremely difficult to expel poison.

Fascism is a kind of religion

Nope. It has several things in common with and is almost always working in concert with religion, but it is not itself a religion.

the organized variety of the latter softens up the population for the former.

That's accurate, though. You can't be a fascist without being extremely reactionary, and organized religion is probably the biggest source of reactionary thinking in existence.

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

You’re right that all evil ideologies, from colonialism to religious persecution, share underlying normative features. However, this particular act of colonialism is, in fact, religious, since the chief justification offered by these genocidal maniacs is religious.

I also want to reiterate that fascism and all religious activity is literally cultism, all rooted in various collective fantasies. We can certainly pull these things apart by getting technical. Kinda beside the point.

If you read the works of the early zionists going back to hertzal, you will see that most if not all of them were atheists that held absolute contempt for religious Jews. They saw them as weak for clinging to what they thought was an inferior culture and superstitions. In fact the only jews they hated more than the religious eastern European jews were the arab jews that were in around the levant.

[–] Gathorall@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Well yeah, but they were still religious. Their religion was just zionist supremacy. Like Judaism is the belief of Jewish supremacy.

If this is their way of trying to recruit Kristi Noem, she'll be really disappointed to find what they mean.

It's not about this conflict, but the Movie "Waltz with Bashir" shows how humans can trick themselves into being justified or making war a necessary part of their job. Warning, this movie will make you sad.

“We came under direct fire; we didn’t know the source. Everyone in the car was martyred, except my brother Mustafa and me,” the boy said.

Israel keeps mass murdering entire families to the point that little children say "martyred" instead of "killed" and then act all "see? Antisemitism!" when survivors fight back

I pose that Israel is the biggest anti-semitic threat to Jews world wide, and it should be dismantled.

Note that normally I'd not say "country is" but country's government is " instead, but as Israel has been doing this shit for at least the 5 decades that I've been alive (I remember the news when I was a child, it was fucking every week "something something Israel killed another bunch of children because dumb reasons") so multiple governments have been doing the same shit for decades; it's the country that is the problem.
