Florida public schools will force students to take a Heritage Foundation-backed class on the “evils of communism.”

Silver lining:

Conservatives have learned absolutely nothing from the failures of the D.A.R.E. program...

My favorite thing from the DARE officers coming to school was them teaching us what street drugs looked and smelled like so we wouldn't get ripped off buying oregano instead of weed or drywall instead of cocaine. 😃

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 month ago

Our equivalent gave us recommended pricing to make sure we don't get scammed.

I believe it probably achieved the desired objective - school to prison pipeline.

[–] DokPsy@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Nah, it was a way to line the pockets of various police officers and aligned groups

[–] Beebabe@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I work with a dude who wears a D.A.R.E. shirt every day and he’s absolutely on drugs lol.

Funny how "communism always fails on its own" or "is a failed ideology", yet is/was so significant, that it has to have it own special section.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And also an embargo and constantly plagued by the US.

Ooohhh will this be like the DARE program and actually end up converting students to support communism??

I know I learned a LOT about recreational drugs from school <3

Some polticail staffer from PragerU at a high school teaching kids.

PragerU staffer walks in and grabs a chair turns it backwards. Turns their baseball cap backwards

"For real, we bussin about the evils of communism. We capping 67 about how communism punishes billionaires. We going to ohio all over capitalism."

I'm a GenXer and I have literally been fed anti-communist propaganda since I was a very small child. It's only in the last 20 years or so that I finally "woke up" and realized how absolute bullshit it all really is.

I don't think this is necessarily due to age. I think it's just that circumstances have made capitalism look so bad that you realize that the propaganda was exactly that.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 17 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Also gen X & I remember always playing as the U.S.S.R. in any game that let me choose because of the absolute banger of a national anthem!

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 month ago

I went to one of the very posh UK universities where they're split into smaller colleges, and my friend's college would play the Soviet National anthem at the end of every big party that was hosted in the college bar. The college student union had even passed a motion mandating that.

It was a surreal experience to see. A large chunk of people loved this tradition, but for very different reasons. There were a decent number who were straight up communists (or at least sufficiently left wing that they loved the political subversiveness of celebrating this song at such a posh university); Some people liked it ironically, for the meme (of the anthem-enjoyers, this faction were typically the poshest of the bunch); meanwhile, some people just thought the song was a banger — in my view, on this matter, these were the most based of them

I already kind of wrote off any kids raised in Florida. It’s like Mississippi or Alabama at this point.

[–] its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 1 month ago (2 children)

As a Mississippi communist I resemble this statement.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 month ago

As a Mississippi communist

Damn. Talk about being behind enemy lines! 😬

Remember, kids: if communism is evil and communism is "taking your hard-earned money away and giving it to people who don't work hard enough," then it's your duty to demand the government stops those communist bailouts given to corporations that won't support themselves.

Maybe let them cook, if this is as moronic as it sounds, it could turn out like D.A.R.E.

This country hasn't been at risk of going communist in eighty years. The right are such scared fucking babies.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

It's just propaganda. It's not anti communist it's pro capitalism/imperialism and ultimately pro fascism.

Kind of like the DARE program taught kids to do drugs this will backfire and create communist.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

We're already in the Red Scare III™️

This is the beginning of the cleanse.

DARE probably got a lot of kid's parents thrown in jail.

Let's not forget the foster children to didler pipeline that is apparently foundational to the modern conservative movement.

We have to get these kids isolated and institutionalized so the rich people can abuse them. The orphan crushing machine needs blood.

Using schools for political indoctrination, misinformation, and propaganda in violation of student and teachers Constitutional rights? Yes, that sounds like Florida.

Had a friend's son tell me, very insistently, that Kim Jong Un convinced everyone in his county that he doesn't poop. Also, that he's planning to nuke South Korea, and we need to do something to stop him.

This was a kid with very liberal parents going to a very liberal middle school.

Red Scare shit is already everywhere. But I guess we've got to keep cranking the hysteria up to 11

If you're a student, then your entire life has been shadowed by MAGA, or the feckless Biden administration. No wonder their attitude toward Democracy sucks, and alternatives like Socialism or Communism sound like a more viable system than the broken system they know.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Democracy doesn't truly exist under capitalism.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Uh, yeah. It’s capitalism that sucks. You can still have socialism and communism with democracy. There are several countries in existence now that have those things. No one hates democracy, except the politicians in power who want to keep their power, and be unchecked.

No one is a fan of authoritarianism. That is what we are currently getting, and we’re getting it under capitalism. Funny, it’s almost like the economic organization is only important to keep those who would cheat it from attaining the power to keep it all for themselves.

Hmmm.

Uhh? So, like... Fascism propaganda classes?

Are they located at lake Laogai?

They already do that weird culty "Pledge of Allegiance", the soil is fertile for more brainwashing.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

You can really smell the desperation in the air. The only reason to do this is because they know they're pushing people to their breaking points.

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Reminds me of the mandatory classes on Marxism-Leninism that my parents had to take at university in the GDR.

If I'm anti-anti-communist, then I'm a communist.

And by that logic, if you're anti-anti-facsist, the you are a fascist.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

If I'm anti-anti-communist, then I'm a communist

Logically, yes, but we both know that "anticommunism" in the US is less about ideology and more about favoring US economic, political, and military imperialism regardless of how.

So even though I'm not a communist, I'm 100% anti-anticommunist.

if you're anti-anti-facsist, the you are a fascist.

That one's true, though.

Let's hope it works exactly as well as the state mandated abstinence only sex education, which is to say backfiring due to kids inherent rebelliousness

Just teach history. Teach history, without an agenda. It's history class, not propaganda class. Teach history, not a nationalist narrative.

These people don't see the evils of indoctrination? Teach history. Teach cause and effect and show the results. Then let people decide for themselves. This dumbing people down and telling them what to think isn't helping anyone at all.

[–] Son_of_Macha@lemmy.cafe 12 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Americans think it's normal to pledge allegiance to a flag in school, they thank people for "their service" Indoctrination has been happening the whole time and it works.

Guess TikTok really did a number on Western propaganda, at least in a couple of generations, and now America is even more afraid of losing their grip on narratives? Either way, that country is well and truly fucked, they're just preparing for the collapse of the house of cards that is the American economy (people will need to be even more zombified to continue working and consuming). If the reputation of the American military crashes due to the new conflict in Iran (their reach and might have already been neutered in the region with billions in damaged and destroyed facilities), that might happen faster than expected. Hope American Lemmings either have enough money to be part of the new middle class or are seriously considering immigrating.
