This user regularly posts intentional misuse of the term vegan either as misinfo or ragebait.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Where are the vegans with the sense of humor to be self deprecating? Until then, others will continue to control the narrative.

[–] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's not about being self a deprecating, it's that this is fucking cringe bro. "hurrdurr vegans eat da trees," fuckin tree-bark IQ level take.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

And I'm saying until vegans create their own self deprecating humor the only kind that will exist is this stuff you find cringe.

Vegans are well know for being thin skinned. Specifically the ones who are vocal about being vegans. I am away most vegans just do their thing and ignore this stuf, but those people aren't on here feeling the cringe.

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This is always the way these things go:

Someone makes a stupid, nonsensical joke, the punchline of which is “vegans are idiots”

Someone else goes “that’s stupid and nonsensical”

Meat-eater: “vegans are so thin-skinned!”

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yep. Rinse and repeat. And I'm apparently to biggest asshole for pointing out the pattern and making suggestions.

[–] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Lol who's thin-skinned now?

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Are you aware what it reveals about you that that is your take away?

I don't care if you think I'm an asshole. All you've done is reveal you do worry about such perceptions. Projecting your insecurities on to me is going to be a miss everytime.

[–] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Idk bro, until you can learn to be more self deprecating, you're just letting me control the narrative

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 5 days ago

Mirroring me is so cringe.

I don't understand why it's supposed to be funny to make fun of vegans?
I am not a vegan myself, but I absolutely understand their moral reasoning for being vegans.

The drawings are pretty funny, the "joke" is not.

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm a vegan and it's kinda funny, but maybe its because vegans have a superior sense of humour, due to our diets creating ideal conditions for our brains to operate at peak performance.

I eat French fries, prepackages samosa's, toast and icypoles every day. Its basically the best diet possible and I've started learning how to levitate.

If someone else is doing something good and you're not, it's easier to lash out at them than accept that you're not a flawless person. Since veganism often has a moral dimension (eg: cruelty to animals, environmental damage), some people struggle with this. They want to be good people, but eating meat is being cast as bad. Thus, lash out at whatever's making them feel bad.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I think that is spot on the main issue here.
But everybody needs to be able to accept they are not flawless, because nobody is.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social -4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That and a lot of vegans are like Arch users. They bring up their veganism out of the blue without context and some of the more militant ones literally say shit like "carnists should all die."

These are the ones that generally get made fun of the most. Not least of which is because they made up a word to describe people who eat meat when such a word already existed, just to use it as a slur.

"I'm a Level 5 vegan. I don't eat anything that casts a shadow."

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So you can eat anything in the dark.

[–] NoSpotOfGround@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Flicks light switch off.

If it's not growing then it's dead, and only vultures eat dead things

Reverse-Fruitarianism?

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I'm vegetarian, and I thought this was pretty funny. Chill out, people. :D

[–] amzd@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

The comic (and you) are pretending veganism is just a silly diet instead of a social justice movement. You may not be doing this intentionally but the OP posts this same misuse day after day.

Similarly if someone repeatedly posted jokes about another social justice movement, eg feminism, that would get pretty annoying too.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lotta people taking this way too seriously

Don't mind me, I'm just here for the self awareness.
