Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

A Mediaite repost of Daily Mail...

I keep saying this over, and over, and over again in this community. Keep information hygiene in mind, please. Post the original source at least, and try to avoid serial reposters, like Mediaite. Mention Mediaite in the body as your original reference, if you wish.

...And try to avoid tabloids like Daily Mail, too, or at least mention a "take the source with a grain of salt" in the post's body if its an interesting original report. This is good reference to start with:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources

But no one ever cares.

Past commenters seem to agree when I bring this up, yet poster and mods don't do anything.

This is the final straw for me. I don't like blocking anything; I've only blocked two other Lemmy communities, one a bot spamming one. But I'm blocking /c/News, as apparently it isn't going to change, and I came to the fediverse to get away from mass-upvoted tabloid reposts flooding the top of my feed.

I literally saw one of the caddies drop a ball where Trump was going to stroke it. They weren't subtle. They might as well just have someone near the hole to drop one in the moment Trump makes his first stroke to say he has a hole in one despite all evidence to the contrary

Every time diaper donnie talks about golf, I think of this story. It was relevant in his first failed term, now that he's gone completely unchained in his second failed term, especially when we see his cabinet "meetings" and the way he holds pressers in front of a compliant media, all the more so...

But in the 1990s - another moment in time when an event in North Korea varies (some say it happened in 1991 and others in 1994), the late dictator, then 50 (or 53) years old, set a golfing standard that will assuredly never be surpassed. It occurred at the grand opening of the Pyongyang Golf Complex, which contains North Korea's only 18-hole golf course.

After picking up a golf club that day for the very first time in his life, the Dear Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea fired a 38-under-par round of 34 at Pyongyang. According to the 17 security guards who observed the performance, the score included an amazing 11 aces. Naturally, the event was dutifully reported to the North Korean masses by the state news agency.

Are you sure it wasn't a reptile egg?

[–] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 1 points 20 hours ago

Sometimes I hate writing on my phone, but I make countless typos that change the meaning of my posts. At least I can correct them.

But to answer your question: Even a reptile egg is too dignified to do what Trump wants it to do.

Hey Iran, I bet you could get a sizeable bomb to maralago, just say you're giving him a golden gift and he'll be there. Maybe get lucky and his whole cabinet too.

Cool, so while dimbulb donnie is invading other countries for no fucking reason and Stephen Miller is giving absurd quotas of brown people to kidnap and throw in concentration camps and/or extreme rendition, they are increasing the danger to all Americans on top of that?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A terror attack will drum up more support for the war and give them.an excuse to declare emergencies to further trample civil rights.

It's the best thing that could happen for this administration.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm starting to think it's the actual plan.

300 Million Person March On DC

[–] KingPorkChop@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago

The White House didn't accidentally bomb a girls school.

This was done to incite anger, create groups looking for revenge, have a major terrorist activity on US soil, then lock the entire country down "because war". They want a 9/11.

[–] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

The point is retaliation to cause an emergency to stop votes

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pretty much

Anyone enjoying their trump vote, so far?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I'm thinking the magatards who cannot even remember what they said they stood for yesterday have permanent erections from things like: fighting "woke", crushing any remaining dissent in media and entertainment, bombing fishing boats, starting a war with Iran, threatening most of our allies, and most of all, kidnapping and disappearing brown people while shooting protesters.

Will it do them any good at all? Nope. If they were living in a trailer and eking out a miserable existence before, they still will be. It will most likely be even more miserable since things like food and health have been ripped away from many Americans. But at least they get to whoop it up over breaking the country and making others' lives miserable.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

We are about to see what happens when you fire all the competent warfighters and national security personel only to replace them with skinheads, dropouts, and AI.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 69 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I’m… honestly both in awe and aghast at how fucking blatant the regime is being about it. They’ve literally shut down the team that is in charge of addressing and categorizing security threats to the US originating from Iran immediately before starting a fucking war with Iran. Like… I just… what the actual fuck. I can’t even.

Between this and the documents leaked about their plans for the election, the intent couldn’t be more obvious if they put it on a fucking billboard. I hate that it comes down to such imbecilically stupid and petty US political bullshit like that, and that it’s killing so many people and fucking up so may other parts of the world… but seriously, I really think that was a massive part of their rationale here. It’s a distraction (operation Epstein fury), combined with creating an extremely obvious opening for an asymmetrical/terroristic threat that will be used as a justification for removing the electoral process. That’s the plan.

[–] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 40 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've been telling everyone I know that it's extremely obvious they're trying to provoke a terror attack on US soil.

They want another 9/11, so they can indefinitely cancel elections. That's the whole fucking plan.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

We didn't cancel elections after 9/11, and we've NEVER cancelled an election in this country, not even during the Civil War.

There is NO justification for cancelling elections, under ANY circumstances.

[–] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right, but almost nothing this administration and government are doing currently is normal or justified. They just do it anyway.

One of the cornerstones of the Project 2025 plan is making the 2024 election the last one. This is how they get there.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

We just can't allow it. No cancelling of elections under any circumstances.

It's more important that your state authorities understand this, because elections are managed by the states. Trump can "cancel" elections, but it isn't in his hands. The states would have to cooperate, and what if they don't? What if they just tell him No, our elections will go on as planned?

We can have our elections anyway, no matter what he wants. If some Red states want to honor his demand, that's on them, but I suspect that even Red states aren't going to like it. There are plenty of ambitious MAGAs who want their shot at the corruption, too. They won't be happy to know that MAGA isn't accepting any new elected members.

And what about non-federal offices, like state and municipal elections? Those jobs have to be filled, too.

It's not just a matter of saying no elections, there are a LOT of ripples from it.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Donald Trump is Constitutionally ineligible to be President right now. But here we are. Hopes, prayers, and traditions will not save us from the fucking Nazis.

Besides, the goal isn’t to cancel elections, it’s to control them. Control who gets to vote and for what.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Exactly. W won a second term largely due to 9/11, I'd wager. He started off as extremely divisive and polarizing. Most people were at least deeply sus of him, if not considering him entirely illegitimate. The economy starts to implode.

Fast forward a few months, 9/11 happens, and most of the Murc's Law Media is falling all over themselves to prostrate before W. People acting like not voting for Republicans is not supporting the troops, or whatever the fuck.

Without 9/11, I don't see how that guy would have had a second term.

I could easily see a repeat here if there was some big terrorist event that they could blame on Iran. The real blame should lie with Pedonald and his maladministration for attacking Iran and doing a shit job on security here, but we have way too many idiots in this country that operate like windsocks.

They WANT another major terrorist event. Hell, they would also rather see see dozens of little terrorist events (mass shootings, bombings, etc) by disgruntled Iranians or other people who are pissed off at the US's actions. They need this shit to justify their actions and enact more measures that are vague enough to apply to anyone... and then apply it exclusively to their opponents and anyone they don't like. This is how you get highly oppressive laws that are allegedly supposed to stop criminals and terrorists but don't seem to be doing much in preventing that, but are doing a damn fine job of making social changes and legislation passing/enforcement of things that protect people a lot more difficult.

White House blocking intelligence.

[–] Lon3star@lemmy.world 136 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Allowing terrorist attacks opens the door to "national emergency" just in time for election season

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is the plan. Roll out the red carpet for terrorist attacks. Declare national emergency. Cancel elections. Then it's revolution to get the country back. What a lame timeline

[–] lmagitem@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well you don't need intelligence reports. The religious leaders of a religion of 150~200 million believers just declared a jihad against the US and Israel to avenge their equivalent of the Pope that is considered to have died in martyr. Even if only 0.01% of them are religious fanatics, you still have at least 15000 people convinced they'll go to heaven if they die in terror attacks against US or Israeli citizens.

He's getting his tiny rotten mushroom dick half hard at the idea of another 9/11 happening between now and the midterms - he'd so very happily sacrifice 10s of thousands of Americans if it meant more power for himself...

[–] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

if America gets attacked because of this fat man and his administration's war, a firing squad wouldn't be enough to quelch my rage.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Here's the real problem that MAGA is going to have: If we get attacked by Iran, we won't blame Iran, we'll blame Trump. He thinks it would rally the country around him, the way they rallied around Bush after 9/11, but nobody thought Bush was responsible (at that moment). If we get attacked, it's TRUMP'S fault.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No one with actualy authority cares who anyone blames. They only care for the desired effects: Elections cancelled. Who fucking cares about opinions? Blame trump all you want for elections cancelled. He doesn't care. He gets what he wanted and you didn't. That's the goal. If the cost of that is all of us blaming trump, their calculus is: that's the cost of doing business.

Sort of how George W had intel that Bin Laden was planning on flying planes into buildings months before 9/11. Lucky for George, he got his war and a 2nd term. Everybody else suffered.

[–] redsand@infosec.pub 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So did you see the email inviting Ghislane Maxwell on the 9/11 shadow commission? It has renewed intrest in the Pentagon, WTC-7 and all the money that went missing that day.

Very clearly and brazenly, yes.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.zip 41 points 1 day ago

Elections will be put on hold. Epstein investigations put on hold. The current government will absolutely allow it's civilians to be killed in order to achieve these goals. That's what dictators do.
