2. Be civil

Being out-of-the-loop, what did Krita do?

    _ /\ _

    [–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 70 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I imagine it's related to how some neckbards on the internet are apparently extremely salty that Krita currently has a "furry" as a mascot, created by Tyson Tan.

    [–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 96 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Why the fuck wouldn't Krita have a furry mascot? That's their entire userbase there.

    [–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I have no idea. There was some dweeb on this very instance going around spamming a Krita related thread complaining about it.

    [–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 18 points 5 days ago

"My God, what are all these furries doing using an open source art program?"

Like, dude dove in the yiff pile headfirst and then had the audacity to act surprised.

    Nothing, OP's just saying things

    [–] RustyNova@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

The title is just a joke about having "boykisser krita" calling me out and and being angry at that smug face.

I ain't uninstalling it anytime soon.

    [–] anyhow2503@lemmy.world 51 points 5 days ago (2 children)

No clue what your issue is, but if your standard for OSS is not being associated with furries, I've got bad news for you.

    [–] Ghostie@lemmy.zip 27 points 5 days ago

    Furries keep the internet running.

    [–] RustyNova@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago (6 children)

Nah I'm fine with furries. Except the boykisser one (as a joke)

Updated the post with the explanation. The joke didn't land

Is it about Krita being on steam not for free?

If I’d use krita on regular basis I’d be happy to support the devs. Also, the license is the same as always - it’s open source.

    [–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Why is on steam? To use it on a steam deck?

    [–] Aatube@lemmy.dbzer0.com 61 points 5 days ago (1 children)

so you can pay to support them, just like how goblin tools is on the app store

    [–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 17 points 5 days ago

From what I understand, most of Krita's development budget comes from income on Steam, with fund.krita.org being a smaller slice. Krita would effectively be in maintenance mode if they didn't have money to pay regular developers and maintainers.

You can still just get it for free on the website.

    [–] Eldritch@piefed.world 36 points 5 days ago

Blender has been on steam for years. As have other multimedia and game tools. For platforms like windows, it is one of the best auto update systems widely available.

    [–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 5 points 5 days ago

Steam seems a bit of an odd place for it, but I don't really see a problem with it.

I honestly don't understand people beefing with people they don't know personally. Like, sure, I'm not the biggest fan of furries, but hey, you do you, I like animals but just not like that.

Not using software because people you don't know like something you don't like????? So stupid. Be you, be proud.

(I'm speaking generally, not directly to you op, btw)

    Hello, 6 month Manjaro user
Why does everyone hate Manjaro so much? It works just fine (for me at least)
Are there better organization backed easy to use arch derivatives?

    [–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 20 points 5 days ago

    https://github.com/arindas/manjarno

And that's not even up to date anymore. They let their SSL cert expire sometime in the last month. Again.

The real problem with it is that it's an attempt to maintain a "stable"ish downstream set of repos to give an arch-like experience, which is something that requires constant effort and diligence. Things the current devs do not provide.

If they can't even get automated certificate renewal set up (something that is extremely trivial to do), after years of that being a meme, what else are they not taking seriously?

And at that point, what is the appeal of Manjaro? Why not just use Arch?

    [–] anyhow2503@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Depends on your use case. Manjaro is in the unique position of having such a poor management track record, that almost any other Arch derivative (or, you know.. Arch) is preferable. They've let their SSL certificate expire for the 7th time just last week I think? I honestly haven't kept count, but it happened at least a few times. If it works for you, that's fine. I imagine most reasonable people don't really care. I personally dislike Manjaro for their poor track record managing their repositories or SSL certificates, their historically stupid approach to the AUR and the generally negative effect it had on Arch linux (tech support). Honestly I think Manjaro benefits most from its popularity in the tech influencer spheres and the fact that most of its userbase doesn't seem to question if a rolling release model actually makes sense for their use case.

I mean, it cured my addiction to pirated Cracked software (and countless hour of cleranup from virus and malware), so, yeah.

    [–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

And when you have to crack a newer version (because the old can't work on your $os) it's all bloated up.

The only thing I don't like about Krita is the color picker but I'm sure you can change that so I'm just lazy.

    [–] Shipgirlboy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think I need some context, what is a boykisser meme?

    [–] BartyDeCanter@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

    Here, here!

Even with the explanation, I still don’t get it either. I have some questions:

    1. What is a boy kisser meme?
    2. What is good or bad about being called out in reference to one?
    3. Who was doing the calling out or being called? Was OP called out by Krita, Krita by OP, or some third party calling out one or the other? Or maybe a third party was called out by Krita?
    4. What does this image have to do with Krita or the other OSS projects in the background?

Feel free to assume that I am old and not hip to what kids are doing these days.

    [–] clubb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)
    1. A boykisser meme is a male furry rabbit(?) that kisses boys. It is usually paired with the caption "You like kissing boys don't you?" in a teasing tone, like this:

    21930

    1. This is a good thing. However, the joke relies on the sarcastic nature of "being caught" liking boys. In an attempt to clear his name, OP claims it's time to uninstall Krita.

    2. The "calling out" is done by the boykisser. Instead of liking boys, the meme is modified to say open-source software. Thus, the boykisser "criticises" the reader, and by extension, OP, of liking FOSS software.

    3. The boykisser himself doesn't usually look like this (see the first image attached). He was modified in order to resemble Krita's mascot, Kiki. Attached below is Kiki's reference sheet, from the official KDE site for the mascot.

    21900

The eyes, the makeup around them, and the ears are pulled from Kiki's design and put onto the boykisser.

If you have any lingering questions, or I misunderstood the joke, please don't hesitate to tell me.

Ah! Thank you for the detailed explanation so I can properly enjoy this joke.

sigh guess i'll have to put the mandatory "free as in freedom, not free as in free beer" over here

And still available free as in beer as well.

This is a giant bucket of nothing.

Im recompiling Krita 6 just for you πŸ’˜

Tooooo many arch using femboys, why not gentoo? Or is that just for cracked eggs? :3

    [–] clubb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (6 children)

It's meant to look like Krita's mascot, Kiki.

    21900

Take notice of her ears and her eyes.

KDE's official site about Kiki, from where I sourced the image.

    [–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

    Cute, that makes sense!

Once I understood it, I found it funny. I just needed to spend ten minutes crawling the comments to learn about the meme this is a parody of.
