They've got the tiger by the tail now, then. Either the US and Israel pursue this all the way through to full regime change, or when they finally withdraw they're going to be left with an implacable enemy for generations.

I'm sure Trump thought this all through in thorough detail, though, and has a long-term plan.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 hours ago

Very long term. Maybe even Two Weeks™.

Yeah plan is Israel takes whatever land they want, US removes their nuclear capabilities, bleeds them dry of resources/oil, tries to instate some puppet leader and then bounces only to let them fall into another awful dictatorship and the cycle continues.

If you think that Israel will take land from Iran you better double-check where these countries are on the map.

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 9 points 18 hours ago

Duh, they can just build a bridge over Jordan and Iraque

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world -4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

You don’t think countries can exist non-contiguously?

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 13 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Not in this neighborhood, no.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world -2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Israel has no reason not to try it with US support. I’m sure they’d love to establish some territory to the east and then squeeze to the middle.

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It literally makes zero sense for Israel to claim hostile territory over 2000 kilometers away when the US already has numerous bases in the surrounding countries.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe they’ll just work their way east then starting with Lebanon and Jordan.

[–] Hubi@feddit.org 1 points 12 hours ago

Sure, and maybe aliens will come to Earth and just teleport the entirety of Iran to Israel's doorstep.

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah about that, he already "promised" the Islamic republican guard full immunity, you know those guys brutally slaughtering peaceful demonstrators...

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 18 points 23 hours ago

Ah, less than a day into the fight and Trump is already frantically looking for a way to TACO.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 13 hours ago

My money is on Syria but bigger.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I'm sure that last line was sarcasm. 🤣

[–] Tja@programming.dev 10 points 17 hours ago

Well, he has a concept of a plan!

they're going to be left with an implacable enemy for generations.

They already did this a few generations ago.

[–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 6 points 23 hours ago

The last time they installed a regime in Iran they created an enemy for generations.

Good. Although I'm afraid not very efficient in the grand scale. Their whole system won't probably collapse because of the death of a single scumbag, however important he might have seemed.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

There do remain the fanatics, and they're not going to change their ways, they'll just pick a successor after running Iran by committee.

I don't think an unpopular regime leader that oppressed the people for 37 years will become a martyr for very many people.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago

He probably will be a. Martyr for all the people that were fighting the protestors to keep him in power.

[–] fallaciousBasis@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

Such a good role model.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world -1 points 23 hours ago

But he could not be dead. Either way, he’s gone.
