Of course this does not refer to situations in which a generally uncommon acronym is well known. :P

Over my dead body does smbc mean Swiss meringue buttercream

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Clearly it’s Suck My Butter Chicken.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Salty malted biscuit cupcakes. Obviously

[–] ericheese@piefed.social 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't that like the one japanese bank

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

Softbank Mitsubishi Banking Corp.

[–] PodPerson@lemmy.zip 29 points 1 week ago (4 children)

How about the users that are starting to use the thorn character everywhere?

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 42 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think it's like one guy. I have him blocked and I haven't seen it since.

Also of all the characters to insist upon, why no interrobang‽

[–] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also of all the characters to insist upon, why no interrobang‽

Because it insists upon itself

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 7 points 1 week ago

Just... brava friend. Brava indeed

[–] Inkstainthebat@pawb.social 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I genuinely try to use it bcs I think it's a cool character, but there's really not a lot of situations that warrant one ><

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We often just put ?! at the end of a 'shocked' question type, so I guess that's where it would work?

Ex: "OMG DID YOU SEE THAT ‽

I'm almost positive it's one person who keeps making new accounts.

[–] parzival@lemmy.org 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

As long as they correctly use eth and thorn, I'm all for it

[–] Best_Jeanist@discuss.online 4 points 1 week ago

They're heroes

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Acronyms are fucking bullshit.

Everyone gets "lol", but stop with the fucking bullshit. You guys have full keyboards. Not the shit we had with out 90's phones. Grow up.

[–] Lauchmelder@feddit.org 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

abbreviations are a normal part of human language, and have been around since long before the 90s

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

They are right though, we came up with lol and stuff like that because texting on a keypad was tedious. Its not really useful in the way it was back then, its just stuck around from popular use.

Not everyone gets lots of love, but I'm glad you do ;-)

[–] Hond@piefed.social 22 points 1 week ago (2 children)

My favourite gaming franchise: AC

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I mean that's Assassin's Creed for pretty much everyone these days, who even remembers Asheron's Call?

...

Is there another AC now? I haven't kept up

[–] Alcyonaria@piefed.world 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Armored core/animal crossing/ace combat

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ah fair enough, I have actually heard of all of those, but I've never played any of them. I think Assassin's Creed is the only one you can really use without mentioning the name first, but true, even then it's too ambiguous.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I think it's because AC [subtitle] is a lot easier to google

[–] trevdog@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Asheron's Call, that's a blast from the past.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

My favorite movie character: JC

Muricans in a nutshell lol

[–] Gathorall@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I was going to say people of low intelligence and no regard for others, but that's much shorter.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

We can go longer: People who despise the entire point of communicating and language and better off just grunting like a caveperson

IAUUAWET

As acronyms go, it sounds like a simple fella noticing his girlfriend is sexually excited.

[–] SayJess@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago

I Always Update Ubuntu After Watching Entertainment Tonight.

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 5 points 1 week ago

Going to keep this meme in my back pocket. It’ll get a fair bit of use on Lemmy.

[–] d00ery@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

What about using idiomatic expressions without punctuation.

Shoot, again?

can you make a valid sentence using the same acronym multiple times but with different meanings?

[–] bryndos@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago

Most users of LAME are lame unless they are LAME; and it's even more commendable when LAME.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It's a defence mechanism. I want to scare people away from trying to participate in a topic they know nothing about but feel like an expert in. Those that do know about the acronyms are worth the while.

Edit: I don't have autism.
