Please do not post the "good friend" or similar copypasta

==========

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

TIE fighters don’t have hyperdrives though.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, it’s a short range fighter.

[–] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Must have gotten lost. Apart of a convoy or something.

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It was alone, so it was certainly apart

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 months ago

The TIE Advanced did. Wrong wing shape for that though.

[–] ThisOne@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Twin Ion Engine. There's no hyperdrive in there...

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 9 points 2 months ago

So this one is basically already complete. What a bargain!

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think First Order Special Forces TIEs do

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

Sorry, I think you hallucinated something there. There is no first order. Episode 7? Legends cannon? What are you talking about?

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

If they did then disgruntled pilots might get ideas and not return to the star destroyer. Can’t have that, can we?

50,000 credits. I know what I got.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

50,000‽ I can buy a whole new starship for that!

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

But who’s gonna fly it? You???

You bet I could! I'm not such a bad pilot myself. C'mon, we don't have to sit here and—

"Perfect restore candidate" Third pictures is of completely rotted out floorboard.

It's got good bones.

okay now i cant unsee how TIE fighters look like modified and weaponized cable spools, initially only used for construction purposes. my head canon is that they were tough, and plentiful in used quantity for relatively cheap, and became pretty much the intergalactic version of those technicals that the taliban use.

jokes aside though, i'm not too familiar with these vehicles. like would like a motor rebuild be decently feasible or is this like the starfighter version of a used mercedes?

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That might literally be their origin. Like the movie props that became well known as the TIE fighter shape, not their in universe origin.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

If starfighters work like aircraft, an engine swap should be easy and normal.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wait, are they called tie fighters because they look sort of like bow ties

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

TIE is the acronym for Twin Ion Engine.

I mean the bow tie thing kinda works too, but yeah.

[–] egrets@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

When Lucas first sketched one out to give early collaborators a sense of what he wanted to make, he wrote "TIE" next to it without knowing what it would stand for (or so the story goes). Crew speculated that he'd already thought it looked a little like a bow tie and he hadn't found the right backronym yet; apparently concept artist Joe Johnston proposed "twin ion engine".

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

After all, what is Star Wars if not an endless parade of retcons?

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

Is this still available?

[–] canadian_commie@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Best I can do is 150.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 2 points 2 months ago

Needs windows too, otherwise there isn't anything to see true.
