Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Trump calls for removal of Susan Rice as streaming platform pursues takeover of Warner Bros Discovery

Donald Trump has told Netflix to remove the Democratic foreign policy expert Susan Rice from its board or “face the consequences”, while the streaming platform is locked in an extraordinary corporate battle to take control of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD).

In comments posted on his Truth Social platform, the US president described Rice – who served as national security adviser to Barack Obama and UN ambassador and White House adviser under Joe Biden – as a “political hack” and accused her of having “no talent or skills”.

Trump’s comments herald a fresh intervention in the takeover battle between Netflix and Paramount Skydance for the studios and streaming businesses of WBD only weeks after promising not to get involved.

Look at that! The free market regulating itself without any intervention from the government! Just what the republicans love most, right?

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The past few months have really made it clear just how much bigotry is literally the only thing that the Republican base cares about. States rights? Gun rights? Free trade? Stopping interventionism? "Protecting children?" Turns out none of that actually matters to Republican voters after all when they can beat up and murder minorities or have other people do that on their behalf. I must admit I have been shocked at just how much of what they claimed were long held beliefs they have been willing to give up to fuck over other people they see as lesser.

I'm not shocked at all, the GOP have been pretty consistent on policy since Reagan.

Peoples outlooks might have changed since then, but the party has been shit for a long time.

Political hack with no talent or skills you say?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It's partly projection, but he also can't bear to see anyone who's not a white man running anything.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

Absolutely nothing to do with her race, that's all I can say for sure! /s

It’s part of the cluster B personality disorder script. Cluster B is doing cluster B things.

Gosh, another black woman Trump can't respect. What are the odds!

18 US Code 227 interfering with or threatening a private entity's employment decisions as a politician. The punishment is being barred from holding federal office.

[–] amorangi@lemmy.nz 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Reminds me a bit of that bit in the constitution that says you can't hold office if you are an insurrectionist.

[–] Itsamemario@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Not even Just that, it states that if you give "aid or comfort" to insurrectionists or "rebels" you are barred from holding office. When he was campaigning he promised to pardon the insurrectionists, that was giving them "comfort". When he "won" he followed through on that promise, that was giving "aid". According to the US Constitution and federal law, he is ineligible to be president right now. There are other laws he broke that also barred him from being reelected, well before the campaigning started, that he was never charged with violating, that aren't hard to prove.

Didn’t he do that in first term too with NFL?

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 44 points 1 week ago

Well Netflix? Y'all wanted to Trump to be in charge of your business, this is what that looks like.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 41 points 1 week ago

Netflix should file a personal lawsuit against the president. Then file one against Paramount for putting him up to it, as the personal one against the president would probably get thrown out even though you could argue he's acting in his personal capacity, which he is.

What a fucking toddler.

He's such a baby that if the fat cunt could still 'get it up' he'd rape himself. CUNT.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

Well, Netflix?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 18 points 1 week ago

Trump described her "as a “political hack” and accused her of having “no talent or skills”."

Wow, what case of "It takes one to know one."

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Christ, will someone please stand up to this asshole?

Seems like Trump feels incredibly threatened by someone with "no talent and no skills".

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

literally everything trump says is projection

Susan Rice? Condaleeza's sister?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 week ago

I don't know why I thought that.

But the Libya debacle aside, Rice was under increasing scrutiny over her record of militarism, including her support for the invasion of Iraq, her backing of authoritarian African leaders and her description of her post as ambassador to the UN as being intended to provide "unwavering support for Israel".

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Remove her. Make the deal. Then reinstate her.

Not that I like this deal, but it’s what they should do if the deal gonna go through anyway.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It'd be hilarious if they were to @ him when he's doing the inevitable whining afterwards:

Quiet Piggy

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago
