Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

White House border czar Tom Homan said that while he doesn't like that federal immigration enforcement officers agents wear masks, he believes they need to wear masks to protect themselves against threats and violence.

"I don't like the masks either," Homan said in an interview with Ed O'Keefe on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan" on Sunday.

Homan said assaults against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have increased by 1,500% while threats against them have increased by 8,000%. The Department of Homeland Security said in a Jan. 26 news release that assaults against ICE officers had increased by more than 1,300%. Neither Homan nor the release gave a timeframe for that surge, nor did they give a source for the assault and threat claims.

And why do they have to protect themselves? Is it because they are knowingly throwing the legal rights and process out the window and committing vigilante, racist, perverse genocidal philosophies out that are against the law?

If you have to wear a mask to hide from the public to "enforce laws", you are always a bad actor. Not that they care.

In over 20 years of the existence of ICE they've only "needed" them since Trump was last sworn in. Coincidence?

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 58 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Have they tried not being fascists?

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 21 points 2 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure they haven't actually tried this one simple trick. The thing is the tax paying citizens AND immigrants both love this one simple trick.

Protect themselves from everyone knowing who they are and being held accountable for their explicitly illegal and immoral actions.

Go fall face first on an upright pitchfork Homan.

Won't someone think of the secret police?

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Protect them from what? What has happened to them in the past? There is no evidence to support what they are saying

[–] funksoulkitchen@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

To be fair, the # of assaults on ICE has likely skyrocketed since they began their campaign of masked abductions, assaults, and worse.

The number of assaults by masked ice agents has likely gone up by a higher %

[–] bluegreenpurplepink@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

There's no excuse for them not requiring every Ice agent to wear some kind of displayed number that can identify them when there's an issue. The fact that they won't even do this bare minimum is proof that they just want to allow these people to act as terrorists to the American people.

Just use the payrolls and direct deposit forms when the trials begin. Shit at this point, it will be integrated with an AI that will just answer the question in a nice little Excel with names, locations accounts...

Those who surveil you and attack your neighbors hide their faces to protect their safety

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

If they didn't do anything wrong, they have nothing to hide, do they?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

In 2020 masks were a leftist control tool from the evil NIH.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

That's different. Those masks saved ordinary people's lives. Can't have that.

[–] Jeremylikesbourbon@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 weeks ago

They wouldn't need to protect themselves more than any other cop if they weren't doing scumbag stuff. I haven't seen the cops in my city wear masks except when the temperature was below 10F and when they have been transporting or guarding prisoners in the hospital I work at and it was necessary for infection control.

Yo Tom Homan, you got my $50,000 in cash on you? That my FBI agents gave you in a sting operation that you totally went for because you’re corrupt?

[–] Thorry@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Can we get Hbomberguy punch through a wall and ask: "Protect them from what Tom? PROTECT THEM FROM WHAT?"

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago
[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 2 weeks ago

You know who else needs to protect themselves? Everyone. From you.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

If they're "law enforcement", they should be the ones protecting and serving, right? No other branch wears masks, hides badge numbers, and has absolutely no accountability. If they're fascist extrajudicial thugs, then they're only "protecting" themselves against the will of The People, the majority of whom don't approve of their methods and lawlessness. If they feel the need to, maybe look at why most of us don't feel comfortable with them being political enforcers that answer to no law or judge...?
