A place for spiritual discussion of all kinds. All faiths and beliefs welcome.

This is a space for exploration, not proselytizing. Share your truth, but leave room for others to discover theirs. Rational discourse and lived experience is welcome; dogma and demands are not.

RULES

  1. No dogma. Whatever system you want to follow is yours to follow as you feel best but don't try to impose it on others, or otherwise shame others for not doing things your way. Discussing the tenets of your system is fine but know the difference between "this works for me", "this is the only correct way" and "this is what the teachings say".

  2. No bigotry, hate, racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia etc. 0 tolerance policy.

  3. No AI slop, or spam. No paywalled content. Limited self-promotion is fine but it shouldn't be your sole reason of posting here. Active posters engaging positively get more leniency.

  4. No soliciting or offering services of any kind.

Ostensibly related to spirituality. I see a lot of stoic thought these days but as the author of that post points out, it's often stripped of any actual self-reflection and inquiry.

Related to that, The Waking Up app features a couple of modern Stoic practitioners that may be of interest. Personally I prefer more Buddhist approach though.

Yeah, as someone who does their best to practice Stoicism because I care deeply about legitimately being good, it can be disappointing to see how twisted and mangled my beloved philosophy has become by these tech bro broicists. It's even to the point I'm very hesitant to talk about Stoicism with other people in anticipation of either them being one of those 'broicism' guys or thinking I'm one of them. But then again, what they think about me isn't up to me, is it? In fact, it could even be beneficial for them if I do my best to communicate what Stoicism really is.¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah. Yoga, Buddhism, Mindfulness, Meditation in general, Tantra all suffer from way too many people with little understanding spouting nonsense.

I read Aurelius a long while back and found it great for contemplation. But I already had tantric philosophy on the background so I understood it through that lens. I however hoped that it would be more approachable for westerners... I was disappointed to find how many people just took them as cheap motivationals to inspire some kind of alpha male attitudes etc.

But yeah, I think it's best try to live the teachings and let that be an example to those interested.
