Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

Man, fuck Harrison Ford. I have no idea why he has such contempt for the two roles that put him on the map, especially when they're two of the most beloved characters in cinematic history.

It's also clear from his interviews that he just completely misunderstands the character of Han Solo.

Edit: Apparently he doesn't hate Indy like he does Han. That only makes me feel marginally less indignant though.

Agreed. Fine if you hate the franchise that made you shitloads of money but at least have the common decency to shut the fuck up about it

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

he wouldn't shit on star wars if people stopped asking him about it

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, what else should we ask about? I sure as shit don't want to know his view on politics.

Harrison Ford slams state of American politics: 'Rich get richer, poor get poorer'

He's a good ol centerist, but seems to give a shit about people. Told people not to vote for Trump in 2024.

Not bad for someone in their 80s.

Lol, can agree, my grandpa is worse 💀

Hamill didn't like the movie either. Boyega had a shit time and he wasn't quiet about it. Many of us as audience members didn't like it, and we are also vocal.

In so many ways it didn't actually work, but even as something half-cocked it still requires the oldest surviving members to lose weight, suck it up, and do their best with a script that was (quite frankly) below them.

I can't blame him. It's like Michael Cain and Jaws. It's a job.

He’s a grumpy-ass dick, straight up. I mean let him be himself and all that, I am not requiring him to be lovable for my sake, but I will definitely change the channel if an interview with him is on.

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You gotta stick around for the Mark Hamill interviews where he does an impression of Harrison Ford.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s true he is the antidote in every way.

[–] Amputret@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Heard he’s a Zionist tho 🫩

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Nobody’s perfect.

[–] AppleTea@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago

You'd be mad too if nobody bothered to ask you what it was like on the set of Working Girl.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Does he have contempt for Indiana Jones? I wasn't aware of that.

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

I feel like you have to have contempt for Indiana Jones to allow Indiana Jones 4 to happen.

[–] hakase@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe not. It's possible that he has enough contempt for Han to cover for both, and I just assumed.

[–] PlasticExistence@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

He definitely likes Indiana Jones. He negotiated a new movie as part of his return to Star Wars. He’s the big deal in IJ but only one of the main characters in SW

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That seems like an incredibly Han Solo response to me.

"You needn't worry about your reward. If money is all you love, then that's what you'll receive." - Princess Leia Organa

[–] confuser@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Does he genuinely hate it or is this just half serious joking, or maybe it was serious long ago and now its a joke to himself because he likes the money and other people seem to like laughing at this half serious joke and so he keeps doing it.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He wanted Han to die in the original trilogy. I think it's genuine hate.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know if it's a general hatred of the character per se, but he was quite adamant that Han should have died in RotJ. He was willing to reprise the role later as long as they killed him.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

"Hate" is hyperbole; he just doesn't like the character much.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 weeks ago

The way I think Ford sees it is in the OT, his death in Empire or Jedi would have been a fitting end to his character. He is introduced to the series as a self interested scoundrel, who is only concerned with getting paid. Then he comes back heroically to blow up the death star, selflessly risks his life to save Luke on Hoth, and sacrifices himself so Leia and Chewie are spared. After he's unfrozen, there's not a whole lot of character development in Jedi so he just becomes a side character. It seemed like he cared for the character until Han became a side character and that's why he wanted Han to be killed off.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I mean what is Han supposed to be in Star Wars now? It was probably pitched to him as a bad ass gun slinger that doesn't care for the rules/laws and gets the girl anyways. Immediately the world and story grows well beyond the possibilities of a gun slinger having real impact.

He's a side character, who can't really effect the universe he is surrounded by and falls into a grumpy father figure role. He was just in the new movies for nostalgia.

Luke can defeat entire armies, Leia secretly a force user that effects entire governments, he uh, smuggles some items sometimes. Could be replaced by near any other normal human out there, as every new character near immediately learns how to fly a ship, shoot down other ships or has a droid that can do it for them.

"But he can understand what a wookie is saying" Wait, suddenly everyone else that is around the wookie for 2 days can as well.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

He did just fine in the (now non-canon) books as a main character!

[–] odelik@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know this isnt cannon, but it my personal head cannon. I've always thought of Han as somebody that "the force" is using as a pawn to maintain balance and as a result, has a shit ton of "luck".

I've always wanted to see media in the SW cannon to explore this kind of concept minor force users that either unknowingly use the force, or the force uses to maintain balance in the universe/galaxy.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Isnt Han known to be force sensitive to some degree due to his flying skills?

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Shrinking is just Harrison Ford playing himself haha.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

In this world it all comes down to 'Fuck You, Pay Me!"
