Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Microtransactions are for pussies, macrotransactions are where it's at

Nnooooo

They were already building lasting value.

By just making good artistically meaningful games.

[–] Paradachshund@lemmy.today 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Art is something that we think is a little outdated in the modern business landscape" - this guy probably.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

"Art isn't about artistic expression. Billions of people make paintings and most of them go unseen. Museums, on the other hand... They don't make paintings, they make experiences. For a nominal entry fee, consumers have access to an evolving and ever-changing catalog of content.

This is the future we envision here at Remedy. High quality games that build upon themselves, creating an experience that grows with the player. For that reason, we're announcing that the Alan Wake series will no longer be individual games, but instead a live-service experience with episodic content."

  • also that guy probably

"build lasting value".

Oh no, he's already using shareholder lingo

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 60 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Welp any hopes I had for more of the control universe after resonant just got trashed

[–] aksdb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you hold Control that high, then no worries: everything will be under Control.

RIP Remedy 😭

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 44 points 1 week ago

And another studio dead and gone.

[–] catalyst@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well shit. I hope the supposedly in development Control 2 manages to come out somewhat unscathed before things go fully downhill.

Control 2 should hopefully be fine as the CEO is new and it is scheduled for the first half of the year (They told investors 2026H1 and no one would lie to investors /s). Not so sure about anything else.

Smells cooked to me.

[–] I_Clean_Here@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Just don't overextend, Remedy. Stay in your niche you dumbasses. Stay unique. No one cares about Firebreak exactly because it is just some lame copycat bullshit.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 16 points 1 week ago

Well that's an ominous headline if ever I saw one.

[–] mohab@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago

Of course, they announce a DMC-like Control sequel and go apeshit right after… I swear this genre is cursed.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Poor Sam Lake.

[–] THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Well they're done.

[–] Pazintach@piefed.social 14 points 1 week ago

There goes another good studio. RIP.

[–] noobdoomguy8658@feddit.org 13 points 1 week ago

RIP, thanks for the fun.

[–] 73ms@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hopefully it won't be like Nokia and Stephen Elop.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At the time I was sure Elop is some kind of undercover agent from Microsoft.

Yeah, I was of the same mind right from the start and people just looked at me funny when I mentioned it. All I could do was just watch in horror from the sidelines. In Finland.

[–] Llllllllllll@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 week ago

Shit floats upward...

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well hopefully at least we’ll get one more good game out of them with Control 2. Maybe also the Max Payne remake. Hopefully they’re too far along for Mr. Shareholder Speak to fuck it up. But I guess we’ll see.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

This is the TRUE American Nightmare. Rest in peace, Mr. Wake.

[–] SystemL@literature.cafe 9 points 1 week ago

Just make sam lake the ceo bruh

[–] zecg@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Remedy's cooked, though I like their games enough that I'll gladly pay up to 25€ for a single-player experience (after it's patched for a year) if there's no need for an online connection and no added live service "value", and it doesn't come with denuvo or kernel-level anticheats.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

'scale Remedy in a way that builds lasting value'

Checks corpo-speak to English dictionary:

Lasting value is cash: Scale plan: First down, drastically, then bisect as many times as possible, then sell off the chunks to the highest bidders.

[–] biotin7@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Remedy is fucked. Not that I mind, I never liked their newer games. The only game I ever liked from Remedy is Max Payne.

CORRECTION: I kind of did like Control.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 12 points 1 week ago

TBF Control was pretty awesome. Couldn't care less about Firebreak, which is sad because I expected it to be a much better game...

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Fuck that shit

[–] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)
