Car tires are the loudest aspect of any vehicle!!

Schrodinger bike noise, it's simultaneously too quiet and too loud until observed by a carbrain.

I do not care what the sign says the card is staying on my spokes.

You filthy terrorist!

So this is not about the bike making noise this is about bikers shouting back and forth to each other. On Cape cod in the USA there's a bike trail that's very popular with the tourists but they don't understand that it basically goes through people's backyards and I'll just shout back and forth no matter what time of day it is

Found an article about that:

Apparently, people talking to each other on the road is a health hazard.

pelotons of as many as 20 or 30 “not uncommon"

OK I can see how that could be a bit loud early in the morning, but:

one of Perth’s richest suburbs

ever heard of double glazing? 😅

one of Perth’s richest suburbs

I checked it on Google Maps.
The streets in question are running in parallel to the waterfront, with the houses being build to have direct access to the water.
So it boils down to people building their houses in a beautiful area just to later complain that other people are also drawn to that area (because that is where you will go for recreation).

Reminds me of examples from my home country of people moving to the tiny traditional rural villages because they are so quaint, and then making court appeals because the church towers are chiming regularly (as they have done for the previous 500 years) or that the farmers fertilize the fields behind their house using liquid manure twice a year.

richest suburbs

Ah that explains it.

Australia could be a bike paradise with so much space.

You'd better have a muffler on that bicycle.

When I lived in Japan, apparently, somebody revved their motorcycle engine too much at night, and it was covered on the local TV news the next day. I guess they didn't have any other sorts of local crime to present.

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 5 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

They genuinely don't. My impression is the news is either how the train was 2 minutes late, or how tourists/foreigners are ruining the country.

[–] Venat0r@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

the tourists probably caused the train to be late, and it was probably a tourist revving the motorcycle 😅 (j/k)

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 2 points 22 hours ago

Especially the American military personnel stationed there always crashing helicopters.

I got the impression this has to have some backstory we don't know.
Doesn't make the least bit of sense otherwise.

It's definitely about bunches of people out cycling for fitness in the early morning. Chatter is common in these bunches, both because it's a fun social activity and because voices are really useful for communicating hazards etc.

For some reason the noise they make is deemed unacceptable while the noise of cars is perfectly ok.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Carbrains rarely make sense.

[–] kahjtheundedicated@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

Only thing I can think of is the ridiculously loud free hubs that are way too popular on high end bikes now. Still way quieter than their beloved Aussie v8s, barras, etc

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Your ute with "sports" mufflers is totally fine though.

I'll turn off my ICU when cycling through this area. And brake a bit slower as well.

Every rule has a back story. You can easily imagine a bunch of kids yelling at each other as they bike down the street. But you cannot make a sign that says "punk kids not allowed".
