I’d rather watch 48 types of sliding than three types of jumping and twenty types of running.
Funny

It's just running and swimming with every distance between 100m and 1 lap around the Earth
You forgot 18 kinds of swimming
Isn't swimming just... you know, a kind of running ?
I actually prefer the winter ones too, they are more fun.
Don't forget a dozen types of throwing!
And maybe a couple types of lifting?
think I would classify all kinds of throwing under lifting
Youre totally missing out on the fancy horse dancing
Actually id rather see that on ice also
And the dozens of ball sports.
Hey some of that sliding involves guns.
USA has entered the chat.
I don't think the US is doing very hot in biathlon
Which is weird because in biathlon you shoot at black targets. Seems like the not-so-native Americans would excel at it
That's because they won't add a machine gun version
There is a Venn diagram of fat fucks, gun owners and skiing athletes and I reckon the US isn't in the part of it that generates biathlon champions.
I live near a couple biathlon ranges/Nordic ski areas in rural America. The fat gun guys do not ski. But the skiers sometimes shoot, problem is mountain biking is more fun in the off season
Are you implying that all sports can be made better by adding some pew pew’s? You may have a point.
I mean, if they had to hit a target going off one of those slolum jumps...
I don't think pew pews are real yet. Biathalon uses bang bangs. Or maybe boom booms. Jury's still out.
To me the Winter Olympics is all about curling. Slide those rocks!
Trivia time: in what country did curling originate?
Evidence that curling existed in Scotland in the early 16th century includes a curling stone inscribed with the date 1511 found (along with another bearing the date 1551) when an old pond was drained at Dunblane, Scotland. The world's oldest curling stone and the world's oldest football are now kept in the same museum (the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum) in Stirling. The first written reference to a contest using stones on ice coming from the records of Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire, in February 1541. Two paintings, "Winter Landscape with a Bird Trap" and "The Hunters in the Snow" (both dated 1565) by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, depict Flemish peasants curling.
Well, it’s no fun if you look it up!
it wasn't fun indeed.
i linked it for those who wouldn't even look it up.
It was very fun to read, but I never would have looked it up. Thank you!
You got me! Without looking it up, I'd guess... Norway?
That would be incorrect.
Tap for answer
It is Scotland
Oh ho! All the great sports get invented there!
I’m glad you now have this knowledge! I got it from a mug I bought where you scan a QR code for a daily piece of trivia. Good to know it is useful.
Curlistan!!!
They absolutely should make winter versions of summer sports. Like Ice Basketball.
Diving
Honey, we cant let our kids play baskiceball. Its like, insanely dangerous
yeah, what are the rules to that sport anyways?
There are no rules baby, we just wail on each other
One has hockey, so one is objectively better.
Both have hockey
found the rare individual who actually watches the olympics
Doing a backflip: enthusiastic applause
Doing a backflip on ice skates: eye-rolls, bored face, getting up to leave
The potential danger in the bobsleigh events makes it way more thrilling to watch than anything in the summer olympics.
I watch Skeleton for 2 reasons:
-
Those dudes are hot and those suits hide nothing. (Stupid_Sexy_Flanders.gif)
-
I hope one day to see a man flung out of a corner into the crowd at 150kph.
I don’t think you want number 2. I’m pretty sure video still exists of the luge athlete who went off the track in Vancouver and that was a bad time.
That's not unlike criticizing some national cuisine lol. From the surface, yeah, most of them share these several characterizing aspects to them, but you'd die several times before finding an end to a discussion concerning things like pizza.
Not only is it SNL, its the weekend update without Norm
