Btw, you can get it on Android through Obtainium and then it'll keep itself up to date, rather than just regularly getting a new .apk. That should do until the f-droid availability shows up

I guess it is an "improvement" that we can replace corporate brain rot with community brain rot, but this isn't going to change my mind about short form video.
Funny enough I tried a few videos without signing up, and it doesn't seem as bad? It's a HUGE improvement, in fact.
Tiktok was putting me off because main content in its peak was "teenagers dancing."
Meanwhile the "average age in lemmy is 20 years older than reddit" rule applies to loops. I doubt they will ever have "npc streams."
Still dislike short-form content tho so I will pass, but pretty good community nonetheless.
For content creators it needs a built-in editor instead of forcing every video to be one take. And for consumers it needs a really good recommendation algorithm. The reason TikTok is so successful is that its absurdly efficient (and incredibly invasive) algorithm will find you content you'd like within probably minutes of setting up an account.
I like that this exists, but I don't think it's ready for mass adoption yet.
yeah, as much as I hate algorithm-based social media short form content needs it. you scroll from one video to the next with no way to pick and choose which ones you interact with. normally you can just not click on a post and it gets nothing from you, but short form content does not allow that. that means the next video has to be chosen for you, and that regular feeds will not work. that mean you have to have some kind of algorithm or you will have to interact with tons of videos you have no interest in to get to one that is worth watching to you (which is the current state of loops).
And it's only on iPhone, bruh
Why would that be? I have it on my android right now
It's not on play store. You have to side load it.
Side load it? Don't you mean install it, the Play Store is not the only way to get apps
Right, fair, it's just not on any android app manager, you have to deal with it manually which is not great.
I'm guessing maybe they mean instead of iPad too. Which is true.
Guess I'm getting loops, thanks thread below this one for promoting it and this thread for telling me it's on the store.
And coming to F-droid soon!
I mixed up loops and threats (Meta) and I was honestly surprised.
I mixed up loops and threats (Meta)
Unclear if typo, or intentional insult. Either way, leave it that way.
English is not my first language. Or second. It took me a few rereads to even see the mistake.
Either way, I'll leave ir
I'll check it out once it's on android, this one more than any other fedi alternative will live or die with its content I think
Already on android in .apk
Google Play and F-Droid pending
Good to hear. Trying it out now
Denied access without an account, no thanks.
Strange stipulation for a fediverse app.
You can just use the website: https://loops.video/
It just doesn't make that much sense since you probably want to store your place in the feed somewhere.
You can only watch like 10 videos without an account. And no search.
No thanks!
Thanks for pointing this out.
This "sign up to view" nonsense needs to end. Whoever suggested it should be tarred and feathered.
Is that just for the loops.video instance, I wonder? Maybe alternative instances allow you to watch without logging in?
Not sure to be honest. I couldn’t find a list of instances.
I might consider the video format platform if they ease the login requirements and allow 3rd party apps which allow you to choose what instance to connect.
Before the app was released, I noticed that suddenly there were many new users. Previously, making an account wasn't open to everyone, but apparently that has changed too.
Waiting for play Store
You wrote "F-Droid" wrong.
In the very minimum aurora, but F-Droid FTW
