Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump reportedly wants the arch he is planning to build in Washington DC to dwarf the Lincoln Memorial.

The US president envision the planned arch to be a height of 250ft, or significantly taller than the 100ft-tall Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Post reported on Saturday. It would also be significantly taller than Paris’s 164ft-tall Arc de Triomphe – but less than half the height than the Gateway Arch in St Louis, Missouri, the world’s tallest arch.

The Post reported that Trump has his eye on a plot of land near Memorial Bridge over the Potomac River, citing two people who are familiar with the plans and spoke to the outlet on the condition of anonymity.

The latest proposed addition to the Washington skyline comes as Trump is already constructing a new East Wing to the White House containing a ballroom. At 89,000 sq ft, the new ballroom is supposed to be larger than the White House’s 55,000-sq-ft footprint, at the same 70ft height.

As a voter and a taxpayer, I'm waiting on some important concessions before I can support this. Were Trump, for example, hoisted in front of the arch by a crane and dropped from the top into an inflatable kiddie pool filled with cottage cheese, this could become an important and beautiful landmark for D.C.

And the stories you could tell your grandkids.

“I was there, I got a little cottage cheese on me.”

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

It's not the best idea, since it's completely indistinguishable from the contents of his head.

You know what? I can get behind a tyrannical triumphal arch in DC. If a president ever turns tyrant, we can hang them from it, Mussolini-style.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it’d be better without the kiddie pool

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago (4 children)

But then where would you put the cottage cheese?

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Damn good point

I’m all for it, except without the kiddie pool.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 39 points 1 week ago

Futurama almost got it right.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago

Wouldn’t it just be easier to send the National Guard to St. Louis to procure their arch?

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sir, may I have just one teensy crumb of healthcare?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Best I can do is have you lie down in a ditch and die

If your country's poverty rate isn't zero and you rely on deficit spending, you cannot afford an arch. At this point we should be selling monuments to pay for healthcare!

To put in context, 250 feet is a 25 story building vs the 10 story building the Lincoln Memorial is.

[–] lemmydripzdotz456@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's about 1,091 Big Macs.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Approximately 37.86 bald eagle wingspans or 326.09 Apple pie diameters.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can I get that in bananas?

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It's in the neighborhood of Apple pie diameters. ~394.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 2 points 1 week ago

About 15 half-giraffes.

TACO Don barely finished a wall, barely finished that white house construction, continues to just spend American dollars and put this country more into debt.

that barely finished white house construction is already in the middle of building a billion dollar underground bunker able to with stand nukes and a angry mob for the current furher

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago

My answer is No, unless we can use it to hang the MAGA traitors when this is over.

Not a surprise to anyone. Even if it said trump reportedly wants a 250ft penis errected and named trumps boner, that would be no surprise. What I am surprised by is that he hasn't demolished mt Rushmore to put his face there yet.

[–] lofuw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, why help struggling Americans when he can waste money on dumb shit like this?

He's sending a message. He has no intention of leaving power, and his family will rule us for a long time.

Sure. We can name it the Donald J. Trump Jeffrey Epstein Child Raping and Murdering Memorial Arch... since he's not being prosecuted - like he should be. I used to be Republican. I left under W. Bush because of the BS Neocon warmongering and eventually became a progressive as I grew older and realized that people's lives are more important than ideals. I know that's a loaded statement, but I don't feel like writing a book to explain it. My only reason for stating that is this: if you're a Republican and you've seen the accusations released in the Epstein files this week and you're NOT demanding an investigation of EVERY individual that EVER went to an Epstein event of ANY kind - DO NOT LIE TO ME AND CALL YOURSELF A CHRISTIAN, A PATRIOT, OR A GOOD PARENT. Because you are None of the above. If you don't want Trump investigated after the things he was acused of while Epstein was alive? You're sick and need to stay away from healthy humans, especially children and babies. Blind support of someone accused of inserting his fingers into little girls to "judge their tightness" is a goddamned mental illness. Maybe he didn't do it, but we won't know until he's investigated fully by a bipartisan 3rd party organization that he isn't in charge of!

Glad you left the Darker Side. We have better cookies.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If that thing gets built, I look forward to it getting dynamited by the next administration. :)

Just make it a public toilet

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

See this irks me, because if I was in charge, I'd want to spur the economy by building giant cool shit too. Course, I'm thinking more like the Colossus of Rhodes, or those two giant mountain king statues from LOTR (Argonath). But anything that could be seen as a monument to this absolute vile traitor, is too much. After he's imprisoned and dies his pathetic lil death, that name should be stripped from all records, buildings, everything. His name, forever synonymous with a repulsive pathetic evil clown.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 1 week ago

He hasn't even built that stupid ballroom that he tore down like 1/3 of the White House to force funding for. One boondoggle at a time dumbass.

[–] bagsy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Pulmonary embolism 2026!!!

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I will only agree to this if there is a huge "TRUMP" brand on both sides, constantly lit up night and day by power sucking Klieg lights. "Gild it!" (that should go without saying). /s

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I hope he does that too and without sarcasm. I want it to be the biggest, ugliest, trashiest piece of shit in DC. A legacy to the trailer trash POS president.

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

It’s where they will hide his used diapers and the Epstein files.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

It's gonna be gold-plated, isn't it?

[–] blueworld@piefed.world 2 points 1 week ago

I'll believe it'll be built when I see the ballroom get past the judges and not get past half a billion in estimated costs.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Maybe it should be a giant toilet for the sharter in chief.

Very feminist
