Yes, you do miss a lot. It is not stated whether the deportation would replace the prison sentence or be added on top.
Let's say it's added on top - in our modern understanding, after serving a sentence, an offender is considered rehabilitated. Why would you deport rehabilitated people? Also it is not consistent with any principle of equal treatment because offenders without danish citizenship would get punished harder than danish citizens for the same crime.
If the deportation replaces the sentence there are other issues. Laws like these are usually targeted at refugees and migrants from worse off countries than the EU standard. Sometimes they don't have functual justice systems, harsher to inhumane prison conditions or they don't care much. So there is a high chance offenders get deported to a country that either has a punitive system that does not comply with human rights or where they do not serve a sentence at all. And I hope I do not have to remind anyone here that criminal offenders too are subject to human rights.
Deportation is no solution. It's only an unnecessary expense of tax money that could be better invested elsewhere. Instead, the number of criminal migrants is more effectively (and cost efficiently!) reduced by preventive methods.
Man, I wish I lived in a country where prison rehabilitated people.

Yes, like the fact that these "worst" criminals are from being judged to one year of unconditional imprisonment.
And you can for instance be judged for 16 months for rape completely without evidence, even though the woman admits to never saying no, because you can't prove she said yes.
You may want to read my other comment. This will quite positively mean the expulsion of innocent people.
Is it fair that immigrants are punished twice? IDK, but this is what it seems most people want.
If the sentence is only 1 year, is it really that serious though?
"Simple" violence is 3 years. And we recently had a case where the sentence for rape was 16 months, despite the woman admittedly never said no, but it was rape because the man couldn't prove she said yes. Rape is up to 8 years, so it is very unlikely to only get 1 year for rape. I can't imagine being innocent and going to jail without evidence.
IDK I think this sounds harsh, especially considering we have had cases with fake rape accusations, one woman alone had 4 men in jail for rape, but it was revealed by a family member of one of the victims that she had admitted to her it was a lie while she was being recorded!
These cases are not clear cut, and I hate that innocent people can go to jail completely innocent and without evidence!!!
Now immigrants risk being thrown out of the country too, even when they are innocent!
I don't think I like this development.
