I love the fact that I never turned into this guy that hates the new stuff. I wasn't hating fidget spinners when everybody hated them, I liked Fortnite, I think skibidi toilet is fun and such. But just as I didn't like some trends when I was young myself (e.g. I never wanted to join the Gangnam style dance), I do find it disappointing that 67 is so popular, because I loved the fact that 69 is funny because of sex.

Im with you on this. I'm in my mid-40s but I work with a lot of 19-25 year olds so I am still exposed to a lot of current memes/slang/whatever. There's only been a couple that I thought were absolutely stupid.
Atleast 69 had a context. 67 literally was a kid spurting out a random number.
But I mean, the same is true with E. It was a random letter. And there have been other random funny numbers. I just don't like it because it "hurts" 69's status of the funny number xD
I just kinda assumed it was a mix of memes "why was 66 afraid of 67? Cuz 67 68 69" Ba-dum-cha
I don't know what "based" means, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.
It's the opposite of "cringe"
Hardly, the use of based this way is cringe.
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/based
(Internet slang, originally 4chan slang) Admirable for rejecting political correctness or socially progressive values. Synonym: unwoke based and redpilled My last account got banned for being too based.
So based
Is this where I say six seven? Am I doing it? Do the kids think I'm cool yet?

Wait, I didn't get this one
It's not a calculator thing. It's an old instant messaging thing that spells PIMP.
I always wondered when I'd stop being the one being hated by adults and start being the one hating kids. I always wondered what it would be that I "didn't get". I thought, I'm tech savvy. I don't know in what way I would be left behind by future generations. I could not have predicted this.
so it's fun. turns out, you just keep being hated by everyone
Yay
Gentlemen, there's a solution here you are not seeing . . . 68!
68±1
±1 WHAT ALEX. ±1 WHAT??
1 thou? 1 millimeter? A fucking mile?! WHAT DOES ±1 MEAN YOU FUCKING HACK.
This rant brought to you by a salty machinist and a new engineer.

Holy shit I'm stealing this comment
I don't see why 2480035542436830599600990418569171581047399201355367672371710738018221445712183296000000000000000 would be funny...
You will have had to have been there, I guess.
The middle ground fallacy
This is why I cannot dislike the 67 meme. I don't actively like it or anything but we have our own funny number and there were 42 as well and 21 for a while.
There are definitely things to criticize about the new generation, I am not denying that, but finding a number amusing is too inoffensive for me to care.
6 x 7 = 42
Mind blown
Another case for the jury

At least 69 is representative of something. 67 is literally meaningless.
Bro we grew up with "-holds up spork-", we cannot comment on what the newgen find meaning in.
So random xD
XKCD made me aware of the fact that this sorta joke has been going on since way before any of us were born. 23 skidoo is an old trendy phrase that's made up of two jokes that mean nothing definable on their own
Today's 67 is 1899's 23
From the XKCD alt text:
In 1899, people were walking around shouting `23' at each other and laughing, and confused reporters were writing articles trving to figure out what it meant.
So you're saying 67 is the better meme?
No
67 is very meaningful to Cantonese people
right @NorthWestWind@lemmy.world?
Hell yeah. It's pronounced similarly to 碌柒, which is a swear that means "dumbass".
As a dad who tries to connect with his kids, I made a 67 reference last week. Their response: "Oh Dad, 67 is old now." Kids these days can't even commit to the bit. 🤣
You made it old when you said it. Could you imagine your own parents making 420 jokes?
