Fair. I need a better pic.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

On the one hand it's Mexican cuisine slander even associating with him, but on the other hand I love the idea of having tacos as often as he chickens out.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Would be great if Casa Bonita had free tacos every time Donald did the obvious.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 1 points 23 hours ago

We're gonna have free tacos. And we'll make ICE pay for them

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I dunno, that can’t be good for your health.

[–] general_kitten@sopuli.xyz 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

i would say that with the right fillings it could be quite healthy

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 1 points 19 hours ago

Oh no doubt, it’s just that I don’t think the human stomach can handle such quantities.

Tune in tomorrow for when trump announces that greenland tariffs are totally happening!

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They will be tariffs over forcing Greenland and Iceland to swap names

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I feel like that makes slightly too much sense to be something trump would propose. At the very least, he'd have to be aware of them not being the same place, which is already giving him too much credit.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Did you miss the part where he called Greenland Iceland during his speech at the world economic Forum meeting?

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Those crafty Danes win again.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Lmfao no, seriously? I did miss that.

I don't even want to consider what he might be saying in two weeks, speculation like that brings only madness...

edit: Wait did you mean he's saying the tariffs are happening in two weeks because if so I'm dumb and you're funny.

[–] tartarin@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

I meant tariffs are happening in two weeks.

[–] FrederikNJS@piefed.zip 5 points 1 day ago

I'm expecting Trump to loudly announce that he negotiated so hard, and really got Greenland/Denmark to bow to his mighty nogotiating talents, only to then reveal that what he negotiated is that the US is allowed to build several military bases (which they already could), and that they have gotten rights to extract a chunk of minerals (which they already could).

Then the whole MAGA base will be thrilled with how big and strong their dear leader is...

As this point everything is exactly as it were before he started threatening Greenland and Denmark, except for having lost a large chunk of trust around the world, and MAGA feeling emboldened.

Then a few weeks/months down the line Trump will start threatening with an invasion again...

[–] Zugyuk@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So are he and cronies selling off before this craziness, then buying after the hit?

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, he did all this crap just to get some attention, then pussied out? No way. Man, I'm surprised. Wasn't there something the justice department was supposed to release a month ago? I totally forgot. What was it?

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Some kinda list in pdf format or something?

[–] Peruvian_Skies@sh.itjust.works 3 points 21 hours ago

Yeah there were a lot of pee dee eff files

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

It really looks like what he was doing and Europe signalling that they are willing to go to war with the US over the integrity of their territory was scaring his billionaire supporters. His own party would have turned against him. He must have realized that.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or just temporarily crashing markets to buy in

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 9 points 1 day ago

This was my theory—in fact yesterday I told my wife I’d bet her $50 he walks back the tariffs so his family can cash out when stocks go back up.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I hope that it has scared them enough to lose trust in him in the long run

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 4 points 22 hours ago

They said I was going to impose tarrifs over the Greenland thing 👐. But I gotta say that’s not a thing I would do, I love tarrifs if it’s respectfully done. ✊ I impose beautiful and perfect 👌 tarrifs, people love my tarrifs ❤️ The best tarrifs 💸 like you’ve never seen before. 👀 Almost as much as I’d love Greenland 🙌and it’s people would love me, I gotta say. Sleepy Joe Biden 😴and crooked Billary I call her, 👎they wouldn’t know tarr-reef if it bit them in the you know where. 🤔 I blieve the reefs are getting tarred by windmills 🌬️ which is a horrible bad thing. Not by me ☝️it can only good hamberder.

Fuck. It's Canada's turn to be the target again isn't it. 😅

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or Iran or Cuba or Mexico or Columbia or any random country.

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 2 points 23 hours ago

Any country should do.

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Tomorrow: We're going to war with Plymouth, Massachusetts.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wish he'd just declare total war with Wakanda, Atlantis or something like that, so we can get back to business while he focuses on "updates" from the Pentagon.

[–] minnow@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Emperor Calígula declared war against Poseidon, had his army march to the English Channel, and ordered them to strike the water with their weapons and collect sea shells as spoils of war.

So yeah, I think you're on to something.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

tbf caligula most likely did that as a putative thing - he wanted to shame the army for some failure they blamed on the sea or similar. Trump lacks the wit to think of something like that - I don't think you can tariff an army, and that's basically the one hammer in his entire toolchest.
