Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.

Pray tell, how many representatives will it get?

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 14 minutes ago* (last edited 13 minutes ago)

1 cosponsor. Ok sure. This bill goes nowhere, like the rest of them.

Any outlet that covers legislation at the point of introduction is just trying to scare you. Well over 90% of bills never even leave the committee stage. Without signs of support from others in congress, an introduced bill has less weight than a press release.

If you see the words "introduces bill" in a headline just ignore it the article is trash, solely intended to mislead.

US: "So, Denmark, free for next Tuesday?"

Denmark: "February works better for us. Second Friday of the month?"

US: "No can do, torturing children that day..."

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago

Are we taking bets he can’t even point to it on a map?

[–] collar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Wants to skip to the end. Does the declaration also include a declaration of war? That's what this will mean

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I almost want them to do it because +1 Congressman and +2 Senators. Annexing Greenland won't go the way they think it will.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

It will of they just kill everyone and take the land.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Slurp, slurp.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

A fat white man. I'm not surprised.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Cartoons were supposed to be unrealistic.

[–] notannpc@lemmy.world 18 points 7 hours ago

Of course it’s Florida.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 80 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

The reason Republicans block DC statehood is because the District votes Democratic, and they don’t want to give the Democrats more seats in Congress. How do they think Greenlanders would vote if conquered by Donald Trump?

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 hours ago

Republicans don't have plans beyond Trump's latest thought.

[–] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 29 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Bold of you to assume voting will be an option at all.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

That’s implied by statehood. If they didn’t want Greenlanders voting they’d annex Greenland and make it an unincorporated territory like American Samoa.

The whole thing is just bizarre!

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

More like Puerto Rico. Statehood for American Samoa is an INCREDIBLY complex topic.

https://pasquines.us/2022/10/17/why-doesnt-the-government-of-american-samoa-want-us-citizenship/

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You're assuming these people think.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Oh no, definitely not. The lack of thinking only enhances the bizarreness of the situation. When you have ideologies that lead to this kind of tail-chasing, self-defeating nonsense, you know you’ve got something special!

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 43 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Same for Puerto Rico. Too brown and likely to be too liberal.

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Isn't Puerto Rico pretty conservative?

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

It hard swings left and right, to a more extreme degree than any state in the 21st century.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 15 points 11 hours ago

Which is why they are fighting to remove voting. You think they will get statehood and the right to vote? Their votes will be invalidated for being "biased"

[–] bwaz@piefed.social 20 points 10 hours ago (1 children)
[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago

Into the sun.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 32 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

DC, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Guam, US Virgin Islands, if you want a 51st state, there are better options that don't require starting a world war with our closest allies.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 11 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

You mean American Samoa, of course, which is an entirely separate island from the sovereign nation of Samoa

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

You are correct.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Why not start with the nation’s capital?

[–] khornechips@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 hours ago

Mar-a-Lago is already part of Florida, though?

This gigantic piece of shit is the guy who was pals with political pedos, randomly explodes in crazy tirades, and has been held in contempt of court multiple times, including just yesterday for violent behavior. Also ordered to take an anger management course.

Total piece of shit.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 12 points 12 hours ago

Tracks nicely. Any loyalist to King Pedo rapist piece of shit is a piece of shit. Birds of a feather. They're all so despicable!

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Sounds like a pretty solid representation of Florida to me. What's the problem?

[–] WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

It's especially weird that Trump isn't the only one in the US government who's batshit insane.

I still can't quite believe it's real. I've always been a cynic and always expected the worst of the government, but this is so far, and in such an unexpected direction, beyond anything I expected.

We really are governed by demented morons.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

It’s been increasing for many decades. The reason Trump is still in office is because the legislature has such a high percentage of crazies in it.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 1 points 8 hours ago

Honestly if this is unexpected, you haven't been paying close enough attention for a decade or two. Or more.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

Stupid assholes.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.myserv.one 9 points 12 hours ago

House Republicans are traitors that need to be in jail.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 7 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

yeah that's not how it works lmfao even if this passes and gets signed the world doesn't just suddenly agree to its decree. it will not make Greenland our 51st state in any real capacity other than paperwork and no enforceable action at all. ...so... ok lol. also, definitely gives us more Dem reps. that'll work out in their favor for sure. Greenland would not run Red.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

So it’s not just as simple as renaming the Kennedy Center for the Arts?

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 9 hours ago

I found space on my rooftop when I climbed up there I realized there's a whole new America just waiting to be populated! 2nd floor roof America!

[–] CowsLookLikeMaps@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

If the worst happened, Greenland would put Canada in a chokehold, isolated from European aid. Canada, the country with lots of oil that the US has threatened countless times.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 4 points 11 hours ago

That's not how that works.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 3 points 11 hours ago

Don't be distracted by theatrics like this.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Such a pathetic, and criminal, organization.

[–] dipcart@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Its really funny that they saw Trump get in... Trouble? If you can even call it that? For invading Venezuela without permission. So congress better give him permission he wasn't going to ask for, because surely that will make invading Greenland all good and legal.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 hours ago

I’m waiting for another country to declare the same thing about the US.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Yeah. He looks like it.
