[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 66 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

You could probably run windows 11 on that thing.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 43 points 2 months ago

Maybe, I don't want to find out.

I have 256GB of RAM. Not all in the same machine of course. Much of it not in a machine at all.

Tax this person!

[–] nailingjello@piefed.zip 3 points 2 months ago

You should put that stuff in an old cigar box and label it "old memories".

Tap for spoilerNot my joke.

No, bad Lemmy user.

Steal from billionaire companies, not each other.

[–] MrNobody@quokk.au 2 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure 192gb of ram in today's economy makes you a billionaire.

One byte of ram? Not going to do much these days...

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Ok, they have 190.08 gb ram now. What next?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What the hell are you even running? (Don’t say arch.)

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Na, it's proxmox so I can learn Kubernetes.

[–] evol@lemmy.today 13 points 2 months ago (3 children)

yeah but DDR4 or DDR5 :sus:

[–] ILikeTraaaains@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Not as much as DDR5, but DDR4 has increased its price a lot.

I bought 128GB on Amazon in 2024 for around 240€, went to the product page recently and it is around 1100€.

As someone who obsessively got too much ram for all his machines (96GB DDR5 on gaming PC, 96GB DDR5 on laptop, 64GB DDR4 on homelab mini PC, 128GB DDR4 on NAS), I now feel the sense of pride and accomplishment that EA promised me all those years ago.

[–] sidebro@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

I also have 64gb but not DDR5 sadly

[–] modus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

DDR3. Split between two machines.

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I lucked out building a PC mid-2025. 64 GB of RAM cost me something like 370 USD.

The exact same RAM from the same shop now costs over 1,410 USD. I feel damn lucky.

(Prices converted from my local currency; electronics in this country are already way more expensive than they should be)

[–] Gathorall@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I got a good but not brilliant deal on mine at the end of 2024, and was feeling a bit apprehensive as better hardware started to inch into comparable prices. Well they sure ain't anymore.

[–] Ghostie@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 months ago

Me with 192

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

How do you do, fellow billionaires?

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

DDR4 or DDR5?

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Going around talking about it is a good way to get robbed.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

[–] a_person@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago
