Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I hope this isn't political. I just find myself sometimes randomly thinking about the fact that Truth social is based on Mastodon and thinking about how weird it would be if they were to start federation.

Important caveat that this would depend on what changes they made to the code. Did they just disable federation or was the code stripped out? If stripped out how hard would it be to add it back?

Edit: maybe this was a dumb shower thought. I ended up deleting it.

They removed a lot of the code; and it would threaten their engagement-echo chamber business model.

Let's be honest here - Lemmy isn't the tiniest bit less of an echo chamber - it's just echoing different stuff.

But that assumes that the right and left are both searching for truth and a path to a better future. Any flavour of leftist can be wrong about something, but at least leftism attempts to help society at the end of the day. A conservative is only ever out for themself (and would likely get pissed with me for using "them" in the singular lol).

Is this kind of broad generalization and a binary way of framing the left and right an example of the kind of objective truth seeking you're talking about?

Lib vs Left vs Tankie

I think it's a happy balance of them not wanting to federate and many of us not wanting them to federate with us. Let's not rock that apple cart.

This is why I refer to those posts as "Toots" instead of "Truths."

This made me remember that "trumping"/"trump" were already synonyms for "farting"/"fart" when I was a little kid in the UK. Yet another thing the orange horror has ruined smh

I've started using the phrase "Trumping" to mean "doing something that you think will make you popular but makes you look like an idiot"

Also because they most likely are not the truth...?

truths sound so dumb 🤦‍♂️

Nobody would do it.

I think it uses soapbox (derived from pleroma) now.

A lot of the fedi blocked truth social as fast as they could too

Iirc, they use something different as a base now.
