1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

G'day guys, not really a dull story unfortunately but I just wanted somewhere to vent my thoughts about the nights events.

I work for myself have for about 18 months, started my own heavy mobile mechanic company business has been good always busy etc.

My wife just lost her job due to being 9 months pregnant and they made her position redundant. So we are relying on my sole income from working for myself.

Stressful yeah but manageable.

Unfortunately that all brings us to tonight,

At about 0100 I hear my car start up and crash through my front fence and off it went.

All my work tools all my licenses access cards to places and my work laptop.

I was fully packed to go do a service in the morning leaving at 0500 so I prepared everything in the car in advance so I just had to get up shower and go.

Now I'm sitting here at home waiting to call insurance and see what little they will do for me regarding the vehicle and tooling.

My wife super stressed since being about to give birth any time now and no prospects for an income for either of us unless I go win the lotto and buy a new car and tools.

The car isn't really a problem though, I mean it is but it's the tools that I'll miss the most. I can't even go get a job working for someone else again without having tools to do my job. Really is a shit situation Unfortunately.

Anyway happy new year guys I hope everyone else's year starts off better then mine so far

Damn man sorry to hear that! Thats a shitty thing that’s happened to you. Understandable if you’re upset, angry, etc. how do you feel?

One small idea, not sure if you’ve got renters insurance, but if so you may be able to claim your tools with that at least.

Sorry again. Hang in there.

Yeah I'm very annoyed, less so about the car etc because it's all replaceable in the end. My biggest concern is how i go about staying in business and keeping an income for the next few weeks.

My wife is super stressed now especially since my house keys were in the car, so I'm sleeping on the couch by the door at the moment.

Tomorrow we gotta get the door replaced all the locks and try get a new gate since they smashed the car through it

Double check your insurance policy. Sometimes they will have a rider to cover loss income due to this type of thing.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 18 points 6 days ago

I'll look in the morning, cheers for the advice

[–] mvirts@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget it was probably someone you know

Bruss unfortunately where I live its just a town 200kms away we all know where they go but we don't know who; only the coppers do.

There's a massive problem with aboriginal kids from the daily river region coming into town and stealing cars for a laugh. Every week 2 to 3 cars go missing and end up there.

That's one of them there.

Bastards. Stealing tools is the worst :(

Don't forget to check if you're covered by your home insurance (if you have any).

You might also be able to get a grant/loan from govt in the short term so you can hire tools and not have to cancel too many jobs.

Home %100 will cover this.

Also, when filing, make sure you list everything down to the brand and model. If you put socket set, the insurance guy is gonna find the cheapest socket set out there. Like $10 pot metal shit. This goes for all of it. It'll take time but don't skimp on this. Insurance is there to make money and pay as little out as possible.

[–] fujiwood@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If possible, did you file a police report?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 27 points 6 days ago

Yeah that's done. Hopefully hear something come morning.

Went for a drive though and didn't even see any police on the roads

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Shit news. Hopefully it'll turn up.
I've had 2 stolen, one was never seen again and one was found within a few days and only had minimal damage and everything inside was intact. Fingers crossed for you.

We found the car via posting on Facebook in the stolen car communities set up since where I live this is a daily occurrence.

Car was 250kms away crashed in a ditch just outside the same place every other car ends up.

All the tools and equipment gone.

Hopefully the car is repairable though will know more monday

A tiny sliver of good news then.
Thanks for the update. Keep us informed once you know more about the car next week.

Here's my most recent update.

Hoping tomorrow or the day after to hear about if they car is repairable or not.

To me as a mechanic it looks like about 10k of damage and maybe 5k of labour.

The real problem though is insurance will pay market value and they get to pick market value it seems.

I want to buy one similar its 50 to 60k but I would put money on insurance saying it's worth 25 to 30 or something dumb

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hopefully you had it insured as a business vehicle...

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah but it's the lack of time and lost income now that's the problem.

Insurance will give "market value" for the car but unfortunately that won't cover the cost to replace with something the same.

They cover tools of trade which isn only to yo 1500 dollars and not really a dent in the cost of what's been taken equipment wise.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Well, that means you didn't get the right coverage, or they're trying to short you.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Bought through a broker so I've no idea. I'm not a smart business man just a good crane technicians

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

You should check your policy carefully. And make sure to ask them directly about covering lost income.

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like you shouldnt have much trouble with insurance if it was behind a locked gate.

Cunts will definitely try and weasel whatever they can get out of though.

Do you live in a city with lots of neighbours / cameras or out bush?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

In a town with neighbours etc. We have the thrives on camera face and all.

They crashed the car out in bush and emptied all the tools

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 1 points 5 days ago

Motherfuckers.

I'm sorry to hear that mate

[–] Angelevo@feddit.nl 4 points 6 days ago

Aw that really sucks man, so much taken.. fingers crossed your car will turn back up. Sure you will figure it all out -- sucks to have extra stress so close to a birth. Good luck with everything!
