Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

i know its terrible for many reasons but i just use telegram for this..
All of these wonderfully nerdy, techy and complicated answers
I just use Whatsapp on the phone, and Whatsapp Web in a browser tab.
Send files, text or images/screenshots
It would probably work as well work signal, but the folks I need to communicate with are all in Whatsapp so....
I use sftp with either termux on android or ish on ios, alternatively telegram or email.
Edit: I don't use it, but if I'm not mistaken, nobody mentioned any cloud service.
And before I discovered ish, I used the python html module to start an html server and connected with safary. You shouldn't do this when your connected to the wild, open internet - it opens up the device on which your server runs for everybody unless you invest the work to secure the html server, taking a 1min research 1 line task into real work.

Snapdrop I’ve been using snapdrop for a long time, and now just run it locally in Docker. I use it at least monthly and it’s never failed me.
I'm also going to recommend Unified Remote Full, which lets you control your computer from your phone. Like if you're downstairs and want to quick-check something on your PC upstairs, you can just open it up and poke around for what you need.
My only complaints are that it doesn't handle pop-up windows well, and sometimes when I use it in conjunction with Local Send, I can't complete the transfer. Edit - oh, and switching between left and right mouse buttons is a pain.
NFC is built into my phone
I use a simple app called FTP WiFi Server, works well and doesn't require to install anything on the PC
