I think it's been 3 consecutive years now that ive been waiting on a deep sale for some titles, but they have yet to reach lower than 10 bucks (max I'm willing to pay).

Some of them aren't particularly old releases so I dont mind waiting more:

  • Signalis
  • Caravan SandWitch
  • UFO50
  • Season
  • System Shock (remake)
  • No Man's Sky
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Nier Automata

I might get those:

  • Rain World
  • Weird West
  • Card Shark
  • OlliOlli World

I assume I still got a few years until Baldur’s Gate 3 dips below $20.

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah! I’m wanting that game.

I have about $15 in steam credit, so I’m thinking of just pulling the trigger even though I have other games I’m actively playing.

i wanna get it as soon as I'm done with divinity 2!

but i need to get a total of 4 copies for the partner and the youngins, and gosh.

i do wanna support them though!

I seem to already have all the deep discounts I‘d be interested in… I currently only buy 80%+ discounts (if anything) since experience has taught me that anything lower than this will get there again very soon, so I’m not missing out by skipping now. I have like 200 untouched games anyway so I‘d probably just be throwing more on the pile… Gifts for friends are in the cart tho

[–] HeerlijkeDrop@thebrainbin.org 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I have a lot of games I haven't played yet in my library, so I will patiently wait for another sale

So far just dlc for games I already own. Maybe I'll get Slime Rancher.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

I love Slime Rancher! Highly recommend.

[–] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Nothing, absolutely nothing. My backlog is huge with games that have hours to play.

[–] Zealotte@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This appears to be written in English, but I can't make sense of it.

We must feed the backlog, always.

Number go up.

I'm getting a 4-pack of Tabletop Simulator. Not sure if that counts, since I already did that once—I have new people to try to rope into playing boardgames digitally with me, lol.

The one that looks tempting which I might actually get around to playing some day if I buy it is Hades.

[–] tactoid@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Hades 1 & 2 are so good!

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 weeks ago

Played Hades 1, it's super good when it clicked, if not it will feels like any other roguelike.

If anybody is into vr, a lot of vr stuff is on sale right now... And keep in mind, when the steam frame comes out next year, you'll probably want some games to play.

[–] Arnl@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Well, be patient and buy it next year with frame

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

You and your good advice.

Edit: woah I misread your username

[–] cron@feddit.org 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Why would you buy a game now that you have no hardware to play on?

Maybe I‘m wrong, but there will probably be one or two more sales until you hold that shiny new hardware in your hands.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 weeks ago

Valid question.

Honestly like not-Anal said, it usually doesn't make a ton of sense. However, I've found that not all sales are created equal, and sometimes some sales are much better priced, even compared to later sales. You really have to pay attention, though.

For example, if a dev is active or WILL be active (this is where the guesswork/gambling comes in), the price of the game could go UP. I see it all the time with early access games or games that get popular. Or even with real goods, like cars or other collectables where they become more popular and either resale goes up or the manufacturer realizes they can sell it for more, or outright increases the value of the product.

Another example is when devs play fuck-fuck games with sales, trying to draw in more attention, and it works. This happens often with undiscovered games, which, in the VR space, does happen pretty often. A good place to pay attention to is the Humble Bundles, but I know this isn't exactly relevant to the steam sales, themselves.

And also just like in real life, and similar with devs playing fuck-fuck games with sales and not all sales being created equal, sometimes certain dates are meaningful to the game or the devs. Like if the dev has a case of brainrot and on June 7th they offer a particularly good sale, or the VR sale happens once a year, or Black Friday or something.

Additionally, shopping for games can actually be a bit time consuming, so even if the prices don't go down further, finding games ahead of time can actually be rewarding. Buying your first VR headset or a headset with new features and having no games and having to shop can be a real bummer. Imagine buying a brand new car and having no gas/power until later in the year, and then also having to get it one gallon/liter/watthour at a time. With VR games, some of them do just crash in price. But usually, almost all VR games find their equilibrium in price eventually, since the community is generally all enthusiasts who want to see the community and technology grow healthy, myself included.

And that very last point sort of applies to the previous ones, and also applies across VR in general (minus a handful of devs and won't last if the platform gets popular since it attracts money-ghouls).

My plan to work on my backlog this fall has utterly failed. Instead I've not been playing any games at all for the past month and a half, instead just working on a mod for STALKER Anomaly. Consequently I know in my heart of hearts that the right thing to do is not spend any money this sale. However, I am still looking at:

Tails of Iron (-92%)

The Banner Saga (-85%)

Bloodstained: Ritual of Night (-75%)

Virgo Versus The Zodiac (-75%)

Road 96 (-75%)

HYPER DEMON (-75%)

INMOST (-70%)

Trepang2 (-66% - if it was any lower I would just snap it)

None of my wishlist games were under 10€ so I skipped all of the deals there. Instead I bought (or put to the cart as I wanna sleep over my decisions) lots of DLCs to Total War Warhammers, Powerwash Simulator and other games I already own and like to play.

One new game I want to purchase is the Case of the Golden Idol which looks really interesting

  • Doom 2016 $4 -80%
  • Neon White 2022 $10 -60%
  • Inscryption 2021 $8 -60%

Never played Doom 2016 but I've heard it's very good.

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Doom 2016 was my game for last year and into early this year. For what it's worth, I enjoyed it quite a bit once I got into it. I tried to start it a few times and that didn't work out, but then suddenly last winter, it all just clicked.

I had also tried Doom Eternal, and that's not my thing. Doom 2016 lets you play at your own pace, your own style, and make your own choices on how to play ... mostly. Doom Eternal you basically have to play it the way THEY want you to play and use the weapons THEY want you to use and if you don't then you're in for an unfun struggle. Doom 2016 isn't really like that, in my opinion and experience.

Might be time to grab Psychonauts 2 at -85% (C$12). The first game was great. Not too much else I've been tracking is at a price I'd go for at the moment, though I haven't looked past my wishlist for now.

Darksiders bundle and Halo Master Chief Collection.

Sifu. Not that old but cheap enough

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 10 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is usually around $20 and seems worth it at that price and it is at $10 which seems like a genuinely great deal for a city builder/transit game.

Riftbreaker at $11 is tempting too

I bought two:

  • ACE COMBAT™7: SKIES UNKNOWN - $4.79 (Flying makes me hard)

  • Detroit: Become Human - $3.99 (always looking for something to experience with my barely-gamer s/o)

Hi-Fi Rush has been at $17.99 for about a week now, didn't know that the winter sale was live so I thought DekuDeals was lying to me and jumped on that purchase.

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

2 days ago snatched Tomb Rider trilogy for under 6 euro.

Today got Slay the Spire, Witcher 3 and Detroit: Become Human for under 10.

I bought a bunch of discounted CRPGs on Steam and GOG last month, I don't want to buy anything this time. Let's see if I can resist...

[–] Stupendous@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Picked up Eastern Exorcist. Got it for free for Android from epic but no gamepad support. So now I buy the Steam version for gamepad support. Solid game

I got Fallout 4's DLC - primarily so I can play Fallout London. I also picked up X4: Foundations, and Fallout 76 as well. All were pretty heavily discounted.

I grabbed a bunch of adventures over at GOG: Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard, The Last Door, Black Mirror, Quern, and newly rereleased JRPG classic Breath of Fire IV.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Okay, no spoilers, but I personally really liked Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard a fair bit. It was the first point and click adventures I've played, unless I'm mistaken, and it's amazing IMO.

No spoiler to a certain scene but my favorite line in the game comes from one of the many game overs and it's just the English voice actor for Finn kinda doing an angry adlibbing right before it happens. Absolute gem of dialogue.
