Cmus or mixxx

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 2 points 1 hour ago

Fooyin is my local player, it's basically Foobar2000.

Finamp is what I use to stream songs from my Jellyfin server.

Amberol or gapless depending on whether I want to have a built-in library

Sayonara player on desktop.

Lollypop on mobile.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

I feel like you just made that up.

HastaLavista on desktop

Locus in mobile.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 13 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

VLC.

But then I'm one of those strange people who doesn't listen to music much, so maybe I'm missing a trick.

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

I listen to music a lot, and I also just use VLC. I have a well-sorted media collection and just drag whatever files/folders I want into VLC.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago

Been using vlc for.... 15 years? Maybe more!

[–] Libb@piefed.social 11 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

mpv. I have very simple taste.

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Same, but that's not a dedicated music player.

[–] Libb@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Same, but that’s not a dedicated music player.

Is it not? May I ask if there is a specific reason?

I will admit I also use mpv like my default video player, but it still is my default audio player and use it like one, with playlists and stuff like that ;)

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

A dedicated music player would not just play the file, but could organize, show album covers, etc. I don't use one, like you I use mpv for pretty much everything.

[–] Libb@piefed.social 2 points 1 hour ago

Thx, I had not considered those aspects.

[–] mongooseofrevenge@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago

Rhythmbox for me. I was using Spotify for a long time but I've been dialing that usage back a lot this year. Another factor was that I have an older PC and when I play games it uses more resources than I'd like. I took the time and setup my playlists in Rhythmbox and I've been happy. It's not winning any design awards but it does the job.

[–] beerclue@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Feishin, connected to my jellyfin server.

[–] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 9 points 13 hours ago

Fooyin's great so far.

[–] thecoffeehobbit@sopuli.xyz 5 points 11 hours ago

Strawberry, was the first one I got to work with my iPods and that's my main use case

[–] ada@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 12 hours ago

Feishin. It's a navidrome/jellyfin player.

I love it, because it has smart playlists that are actually smart! It lets me create "random" playlists from my music collection, in a way that works for me.

Extremely ergonomic terminal music player.

[–] Spider89@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago
[–] buttmasterflex@piefed.social 7 points 13 hours ago

I use Sayonara for my local music player.

[–] newcockroach@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

mpd with rmpc - unix philosophy at work. Have been rockin it for 3 years now. probably gonna stick with mpd for the rest of my linux journey.

[–] bazzett@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Same. I've tried dozens of music players, but I always return to mpd, though I use Cantata as my front end. And M.A.L.P. allows me to control playback from my Android devices.

I also quite like QuodLibet, but my computer has a bug where the music randomly pauses when using Gstreamer (which QL uses), so for the most part I use mpd.

I've been happy with Strawberry so far. The default music player in Gnome is okay-ish but I wanted a music player that can be set up with multiple music folders and Strawberry can do that.

[–] msokiovt@lemmy.today 3 points 11 hours ago

I used a few, but right now, I think I have Rhythmbox for podcasts, but Strawberry for music (432Hz shenanigans).

[–] BigBolillo@mgtowlemmy.org 2 points 10 hours ago

I use YouTube Music installed as a brave app with ads block on. I'm always connected to internet so I save storage space and time watching ads.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Strawberry, Audacious, qmmp and Amberol are all decent audio players I have been happy with.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 3 points 12 hours ago

I started with Clementine for a few years, and then migrated to Strawberry, I love the mood bar.

I am still on Windows, but am looking to switch to Endevour OS next year or so...

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

I second Audacious, it's ALMOST foobar, the only thing it doesn't do is create a new playlist from a folder drag into empty space.

EDIT: also, I like to put it into the system tray

[–] brachypelmide@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

while not exactly Linux, i always stood by AIMP - it runs quite well through wine

[–] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Strawberry has been kind of buggy for me. I don't have an alternative player yet so I am looking for input here too.

[–] determinist@kbin.earth 2 points 11 hours ago

I use Strawberry. I like it's Dynamic Random playlist feature, and I can customise it if I want.

Basically ssh into the box in my workshop and mplayer my whole music folder on shuffle.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

You mean a dedicated hardware device?

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

No, just software that is specifically designed for this purpose, so less applications like VLC and more applications like DeaDBeeF (or MPD for multiple devices). I'm just interested in what people use.
