Rules:

Don’t be awful Lemmy Guidelines Still Apply.

We are agents of chaos I’ve created this to be the alternative to the community I used to manage on the website that shalt not be named “mapporncirclejerk”

Live and let die Meme trends happen, so please don’t message mods asking to take down maps that are repetitive to a bit.

Reposts Vs. Covers Not all reposts are evil- if someone posts something that has been done years ago, it serves to bring old memes to the new users. I call these meme covers. However it can be done in excess which makes it a repost and spam. Mods will determine if a post is a cover or a repost.

No impersonating mods I can’t believe I had to make this rule.

No harassing mods on an appeal We can talk it out, and we will be acting in good faith when making decisions. If you disagree with a removal, you are free to message for clarification or to appeal by giving some added context.

Bans Bans will be set to a maximum of 365 days for humans, and a minimum of 365 years for bots. I believe people can change, so if you are banned for good reason, do know that it is not permanent, it is just a way to say “take time to grow and come back when you are ready”.

If states were drawn like congressional districts.

From what I've learned about eastern California, they have more in common with (parts of) Alabama than one might think.

Not sure Mobile, AL would go along with this though; A wonderful place unfortunately surrounded by dearth.

They do. Rural California is FULL of rednecks. They're just outnumbered by the rest of us.

That's every state, though.

our rednecks are extra severe, desert rednecks….
it takes a special kind of person to decide to move into a desert… or to stay in one

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How do they compare to swamp rednecks and Appalachia rednecks?

Cousin eddy?

Desert Rats

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

It is, but California is such a populous state we have several red states' worth of rednecks here.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Same is true for rural WA, and I'm guessing every other state.

Not a fan of Mobile myself. I think I have a weird prejudice because it reminds me of Oklahoma City. Beats hell out of Birmingham though!

I might be biased from being a european who had only heard about the stereotypes, but was positively surprised when having to spend a week there.

I live in California and I've heard the words "Eastern California" in this thread more times than I've ever heard it in my life.

We're only about 3-4 hours wide I say North and South are fine. Maybe two North's for the reason you said.

We jerrymandering state borders now?

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

That cut better be coming out of Wyoming. They’re not fucking using it.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Should have an island in Alaska and Hawaii as well better give them all the water between the two states just to be fair.

I know this is mostly a joke, but I do think California is too big for its own good. Splitting it into Northern California, Southern California, and Eastern California (rename as needed) seems to make sense to me: it gives Eastern Californians a voice in the Senate, while also giving a separate voice to SF vs LA. I'm sure this would cause all sorts of other problems I'm not aware of, but what solution doesn't?

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

The issue with the current U.S. federal setup is that rural communities are massively over-represented in the Senate.

1 senator in Montana represents around 650,000 people

1 senator from California represents 19.4 million people.

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

The biggest problem is that we wouldn’t have a nice round 50 any more!

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Missouri will probably happily give up its share of Kansas City, though. Plus, if they set up toll roads, they won't need taxes.

[–] fubarx@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Eastern California, Oregon, Washington, and a big chunk of Idaho would want to be in the same state.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Anyone wondering what CA gives up in this proposal, see GTA5's Trevor as an example.

Welcome to the sweet home calabama

[–] Bonus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Stay the hell out of Malibu, goldbrickers!

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I feel like the should also be a sliver in Alaska too

[–] AMillionMonkeys@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Makes about as much sense as Maryland's shape. I say go for it.
