Choice paralysis can hit you even if it's only about two things. In this case it's about two games that you will play for hundreds of hours.

I had “Horizon Zero Dawn” in my library for 3 years before I finally started a serious game and finished it this year. Currently replaying it again.

The successor is now on sale on Steam: €36.

I put “God of War” on my Steam wishlist after finishing “Horizon Zero Dawn” for the first time. I was looking for more open-world games of this kind, and it got recommended by fans.

It's now on sale on Steam: €20.

I can't play them both at the same time. And after playing one of them for 100 to 200 hours, the other will be on sale again.

What would you do? GoW, so that you don't stick in the same world for too long and have some variety in your escapism? Or HFW to see how the story continues without wasting any more time?

Would HFW disappoint me on my GTX 1070? Compared to HZD?

I vote horizon forbidden west because the world is -so engaging- even more than the original imo. Even the side quest chains are beautiful and moving. They did a very good job with it.

I haven’t played GoW though, so I’m definitely biased.

Both are excellent. HFW is 100 hours + 20hr DLC, GoW is 30-40 hours.

HFW by a mile and it’s not close. It’s not that GoW is bad by any metric. It is a fantastic game. HFW is just THAT GOOD. Great visuals, great story, game play and combat is FANTASTIC. Well over 100 hours of content. Even more if you do all the side quests.

GoW isn’t really open world, there’s a hub and there’s smaller, mostly linear locations. Gameplay is more of an Uncharted with axes and combos. It is a very good game though.

Haven't played HFW yet so I can't really compare, it is on my wishlist though. That said I didn't find GoW to be that great. It's a significant departure from the style of earlier games. It feels more like a different game that was reskinned to be GoW. If you haven't played the originals maybe that isn't a factor.

Oh, I think I put GoW on the wishlist because of the few hundred hours of “The Outer Worlds.”
