I'm all fairness, they should block California's too. I don't think redrawing districts is the fix. I don't know what the fix is, but it's something else.

California's was built in such a way that it would only kick in if Texas kicks in. In all fairness, I think the American people who aren't the 1% or insane, are not voting or voting dem next elections. The writing is on the wall, which is why some republicans are turning.
Edit: See below for corrections on the California "built in to only kick in for Texas" part.

@QuantumTickle@lemmy.zip @pelespirit@sh.itjust.works that is not true, the Prop. 50 California redistricting is happening regardless of what happens to Texas. It was amended to take out its dependence on Texas' actions while being discussed in Legislature, before Newsom signed it. Only if a court bars California's effort via judgement or injunction will it be stopped now.
Other red states have alreaddy gerrymanded several seats, so it should kick in anyway. It has a built in reset in 2028, so it already has enough contingency in it to undue its ugly neccesity.
Should still kick in. Not like Ohio, NC, others didn't give more seats to Republicans.
I didn't realize that. Thank you.
This is incorrect. The part making it dependent on Texas was removed. It's still in effect unless it's struck down by the courts.
I happily voted for it. Fuck maga to death
yeah its up to them to not start this stuff. don't start none and there won't be none.
Its the fix only because most red states have and continue to use gerrymandered maps.
To be fair, there are democratically run, states that are moderately or heavily gerrymandered themselves. Of course Republicans benefit the most from gerrymandering.
Speaking as a Californian, that would be okay with me. I felt kind of gross voting for it in the first place but we’re past idealism now.
I wonder if they even can block California’s, as it was a proposition voted on by the voters?
If no other states are mid cycle redistricted to favor Republicans, then absolutely California’s should be voided. As long as other states are stealing seats mid cycle like this, I’m OK with California’s going through.
The fix is nationwide proportional representation. Anything else is a sham.
Yeah but Cali should appeal because I suspect they'd allow Texas at the last second.
