I'm not sure if it's just Spez, I think Reddit's moderation needs a serious overhal, but at this point they've got so many users that I'm not even sure if they look at their appeals anymore, probably not.
Leaving reddit has helped me substantially. That website is full of bots and trolls. The admins are power hungry and really angry for some reason.
I started reading again, doing more art and not doomscrolling as much. I could waste 3 or 4 hours easily scrolling through the reddit shithole and learn nothing.
I do miss the modding subreddits and the mechanics subreddits cause i like working on stuff and most of the post here are program/linux based. But as time goes on, this site will get better with more people and posts.
I got Permabanned from Reddit (17 year old account btw) for “ threatening violence” because I said we should pop tires of iCE agents illegally kidnapping people.
So yeah, screw them and bring on the blackjack and hookers
we should pop tires of iCE agents illegally kidnapping people.
{lemmysilver}
I got permananned for violence for saying a fictional character "got what they deserved." It was 100% a non-sequiter as the character did nothing wrong and survived the movie just fine.
Whoever had the idea on Reddit to get permabanned and have a shitty appeal system that never gets checked by human beings literally wasn't the smartest guy.
literally wasn't the smartest guy.
Statistically it is a safe bet to say the literal smartest guy is not nor ever has worked at Reddit.
I mean, Steven Hawking didn't work at reddit, but he did an AMA once.
I reported a post and was then reported by mods for “report abuse”. There’s no explanation what this even is. An admin said “when you know, you know”is the whole definition. So I received a few days suspension. But the mods removed the post. Appeal was ignored.
Now mods and admins are gaslighting everyone into thinking that there’s no problem. Despite there being complaints by multiple people (including some mods) for years now.
I got shadow banned my 10 year old ACC there for no reason in particular. The moderators there are out of touch. Was on 555 days streak too. After 3 more weeks just being there, deleted my banned account and moved here. Hi, I am new here.
Welcome to 🐭
You'l probably get banned or at least have your comment deleted from .world if you say stuff like that, and jordanlund is still the ubermod.
Ya. We used to be able to have a voice there. Now the minority conservatives are pushing out the majority liberals. Piece by piece.
Shoulda suggested just keying the cars instead.
should be "...with communists, and gay linux nerds"
My brother once forgot the word "Lemmy" and said "reddit for comunism"
Came to lemmy for a bit when they killed 3rd party apps in July '23. But I switched back once I learned how to make Boost (my favourite reddit app) usable again.
Now I'm back here, hopefully permanently. Was calling out a troll on a local subreddit and found out users are now able to hide their post and comment history.... Unless you keep a folder of screenshots of bots, trolls etc., it is hard to call them out now.
Boost is also on lemmy now, so that lessens the pain a little bit. But the communities that I used to frequent on reddit is close to dead here, especially my local community lol. So I've just been browsing active but most of these are irrelevant to me. So I turned back to spending my time on other things like reading, games, etc.!
I left reddit when I realized that probably 50% or more of the users are actually bots. Literally debating with robots.
Yeah, the move to hide users' post history and comments serves more to hide advertisers, scammers, trolls, bots, etc.. User privacy? People got it before by having multiple accounts that were used for different purposes. It has worked for years lmfao.
Lemmy is exactly like Reddit was in the early days. Long before the enshitification started.
Back in those days niche forums still existed and search engines worked.
I'm happy here. I love it in fact.
Lemmy has advanced leaps and bounds since the Reddit exodus, and has not devolved into a nazi shithole like most Reddit clones. It still lacks many niche communities, but hopefully this will improve over time.
Newbie here who is in Reddit jail, I got banned for posting something that wasn't into Reddit's filters (It was an NSFW meme but it wasn't offensive) My account literally got sniped by a bot the second I posted the meme, I'm glad there's neither here. I'll wait 100 days until my IP gets unblocked I guess and then move there for now this is my new home.
I had an account with almost 100k karma and I posted good stuff I had friends I talked to, Thanks reddit for having bullshit filters and for having a nonsense repeal system that doesn't work.
Why not just move here permanently and kill your Reddit since they clearly demonstrated they don't want you there?
I mean, I wasn't ever banned from Reddit, but I left on my own before that would've inevitably happened since I had some comments sniped for BS before they started ramping up the censorship there, and I don't plan on ever going back.
Because reddit had more niche communities that I was into and it's way more populated which is to be expected, but I also love how open this website seems so far, my main gripe with Reddit is that if you are a new account you are pretty much fucked, I'm not against moderation but Reddit overdoes it.
There are some subreddits that I miss but there's also usually a lot less bullshit here. The giant "fuck you" to third party app developers was the last straw for me. I wasn't even in that group but that pretty much told me where reddit was heading and I wasn't willing to go along with it. But, there's probably quite a few people here who still use Reddit. Either way, welcome!
Why not start your own niche community and then share it here?
I'm not against it, It's just I used reddit for everything regarding news and I overral liked engaging with posts but it's always like I had this fear that if I say something wrong I would get banned by a moderator or something.
Also the permament ban thing is really harsh for me it should exist for posting REALLY FUCKED UP stuff, not because you posted something and a bot happened to snipe it.
Your real concern should be that Spez gets to censor what you're reading in a real way.
Not only does he get to remove stuff that counters his narrative, he also can allow certain types of narratives to flood the site.
Editorial control is huge, and giving that to Spez seems insane to me. That, along with Facebook, 4chan, and every other social media is certainly how we got a shitty president who was basically nobody relevant until 2015.
spez has been bowing to musks demands against reddit since the beginning of this year, thats why thier moderation is so heavy handed, plus AI scraping, botting,.
Welcome. If your all page seems stale, I suggest you switch to different sort types. Active is the least active, but worth checking. Hot is great. If I still want content, I'll go to 1 hour, 6 hour and scaled.
I was on Reddit for 12 years, with nearly a million Karma, but they permabanned me in the February bloodbath for posting an opinion I'd posted many times without a warning of any kind.
I've never heard of a 100 days ban, that's new. I suspect they're hoping you'll forget about Reddit and go away, but if you go back, my prediction is that now that you are on their radar, they'll target you, and find excuses to keep suspending you until they feel justified in permabanning you.
Reddit mostly ban IPs for 100 days 105 for safety and I've been there before really, Now I've got a new connection so different IP and I'm not shy about formatting my devices, It's something I will do, though for now I also don't care.
Have you been told there's a 100 day cool down? I was told my account was banned (with zero info/explanation) forever and even when I use VPNs I get Shadow banned until I open up Reddit without a VPN so I assume it's really forever
The rules say that Reddit keeps track of your IP and fingerprints for 100 days.
We have blackjack?! And hookers?!
It's pronounced jackblacks and boogers
Never been banned. Their stupid "contributor quality score" makes it impossible to cycle through accounts once a year and not get shadow banned by the site itself.
Reddit basically teaches people to be pandering self conscious kiss-asses with a penchant for bullying the underdog + general groupthink.
I am banned from reddit because subreddit mod did not like my comment ( it didnt break rules or anything) in facebook related sub , than got my account permanently banned and found my other accounts than reported those for ban evasions
I hadn't been to reddit for over a year, but recently picked it up again. They've got things that we don't have, because they're bigger. Their community isn't all bad, but you have to look hard.
I make sure not to post anything though. No comments or upvotes either. I would still rather see them die, but sunce they're here, I might as well use them.
Definitely yeah, I mean they've got over 110M daily active users while Lemmy has 40k daily users it's not even comparable, if Lemmy had users in the Millions I think it would be much better.
I always looked for a reddit altenative, even though Reddit has all the things you'd ever want, and people from all around the world that you'l probably never meet but still, I would change so many things.
