Set hammer on top of step ladder

Climb down from ladder

IMMEDIATELY forget about hammer

Move ladder

KLONK!! "Ow! Shit."

"That's the last time I'll ever do that."

Narrator: "It wasn't even the last time that day."

I'm more of a "forgets where the hammer is placed, searches for the rest of the week, leaves the ladder where it stands" kind of person.

Conversely, there’s the windows of 5 min to do a 30 min task.

All these memes are telling me I should get checked for ADHD.

Do some (reliable) self tests (there are some official ones, I'm sure someone can advise). It's very quick and you'll learn more about yourself.

I'm diagnosed now, but before that, the way I saw this was: even if I don't actually have ADHD, if I know I have ADHD-like symptoms/behaviours, I can learn and use the coping strategies of ADHD individuals to make my life easier. (Which was right except for the fact that I, indeed, turned out to have not only the symptoms but actual ADHD).

How did you bring it up to your doctor? Just ask or bring up some symptoms I have?

My health insurance (Axa in the UK, through my employer) has a neurodivergent diagnosis/support service.

After doing a self assessment, I booked an appointment with a regular doctor and said I suspect I might have ADHD because of [assessment] and [list of symptoms].

They said something along the lines of "that's enough evidence to at least suspect it", then referred me onwards to the other service (ProblemShared) which did first a preliminary assessment and then a formal diagnosis.

I read an interesting, recent article in which the authors postulate the existence of types 1 and 2 ADHD, like with diabetes. Type 1 you’re born with; type 2 you can acquire from exposure to television and TikTok. This makes a lot of sense to me; my symptoms were borderline as a child (AuADHD) but now as an adult, having spent a decade scrolling twitter in my spare time (I dropped off in 2017ish) I’ve trained my inattentiveness to a whole new level.

ETA: I took a while but I found it.

It's well documented that as individuals age the hyperactivity and impulsiveness wanes somewhat, though the amount varies from person to person. I could definitely see things like TikTok exacerbating symptoms though. I dunno that I would call technology imposed behavioral changes ADHD, especially since ADHD is a shit name anyway. Maybe calling it something like self-inflicted ADHD rather than type 1 and type 2 lol

Besides, we already have 3 'types' to begin with: hyperactive, inattentive, and combined type.

Would you happen to have a link to that article? I'd love to check it out

I would be super grateful to read article about 3 types you mention at the end of your comment

Here's one that looks pretty thorough in covering it. I only quickly skimmed through it though.

I either do the work of 5 people myself or get gridlocked and do nothing at all, there is no in between.

30 minutes? Try 6 months.
