The worst part is that he didn't actually learn his lesson. He voted for Trump because of bullshit promises and now he's just going to go back to voting for right wing libertarians who won't win and thus he'll be throwing his votes away instead of preventing future Trumps.

"I got my nose bitten off by a leopard, so next time I'll coat my face in ketchup and hope no one eats my face."

[–] mikenurre@lemmy.world 66 points 1 week ago

He clearly missed out on how DOGE cost more than they cut. Kinda expect that cognitive dissonance from a Libertarian.

[–] humanamerican@lemmy.zip 53 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Chase Oliver was too liberal for him? Why, cuz he cares about homeless people and immigrants? Cuz he's gay? Cuz he voted for Obama once?

And not once did he mention feeling betrayed by Trump because of the masked goons abducting, imprisoning, and deporting people without due process.

So many Libertarians don't seem to have a fucking clue about Liberty.

So many Libertarians don't seem to have a fucking clue about Liberty.

Like 95% of libertarians aren't even libertarians.. they're embarrassed GOP bigots. They don't even know the first thing about libertarianism.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

theres also the types that put on a veneer of being "center right" too, those are the scummiest.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

The NH libertarian party is a perfect example of it being fulled with non-libertarians. Pretty sure the main party has completely denounced them at this point.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago

No true libertarian, amirite?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That stood out to me, too:

If the presidential election were held today – with the same candidates – I would sit out. I would not vote for Chase Oliver, the 2024 Libertarian Party's presidential nominee, because he is way too left-wing and alienating to a lot of libertarians. That’s why so many went to Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Reading it again, I caught something I hadn't before:

"I would sit out."

Not, "I would vote against Trump", but "I would do nothing, allow this to play out exactly like it is, and be able to say it's not my fault."

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 week ago

While everybody knows that it's exactly their fault.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Maybe it's because he's pro choice, that thing that used to be one of the libertarian selling points years ago

[–] ReverendIrreverence@lemmy.world 42 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Saw a quote once that describes this pretty well: "Libertarians are like house cats. They are convinced of their fierce independence while utterly dependent on a system they don't appreciate or understand."

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

American style libertarianism is incoherent. It's just Republicans who smoke weed and sleep in on Sunday.

Even Ayn Rand saw through their bullshit, calling them "anti-capitalist" because she understood that capitalism requires a strong State.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yup. When you think about it, if you were really libertarian you'd have an electric car and maybe stand up a wind turbine and some solar panels in your yard. That way you wouldn't be dependent on complex oil refineries and a global oil system, the majority of which is directly owned by foreign governments.

But how many libertarians actually do this? Really libertarianism is about a vague feeling of distrust in the government and it doesn't actually go any deeper than that.

[–] astutemural@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago

Real libertarians would just be anarcho-communists since you really need some sort of community to cover the gaps in your abilities.

There's a reason ancient farming communities almost universally shared food communally. One bad harvest and you're dead.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Noooooo leave kitties out of this! They are soft and cute and deserve no connection to idiot libertarians!

I had a friend who discovered Libertarianism years ago. He tried to explain it to me and get me on board. Some highlights from that conversation:

"What's better, Coke or Pepsi? WRONG! Dr. pepper is better, but you didn't say it because nobody told you it was an option!"

"Imagine the country how it is now, but you have the freedoms to become rich."

"Poor people vote for Dems, so the Dems want you to stay poor so you'll keep voting for them"

He just talked in circles and didn't want to hear how crazy he sounded. "It just sounds crazy, because we've never experienced it before."

I hope he eventually got over all that. He was otherwise a very smart guy.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

thats exactly how a crazy person sounds like, and why alot of people with actual mental disorder fall for alt-right beliefs.

[–] jonathan@piefed.social 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Libertarians are the fucking worst.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago

I've always said that libertarianism is for very stupid people who think they're very intelligent.

[–] khepri@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

That's weird, because libertarians hate handouts, welfare, regulations, and the Fed in general. All things which Trump is doing a fantastic job of burning down so him and his buddies can loot the corpse of our dying empire. Seem like the libertarian dream actually, where all that matters is how much can you snag for yourself before someone else does. If you can't compete in an open free market, then just kindly die and reduce the surplus population.

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Libertarians are just conservatives that are too chickenshit to commit to the bit, so they hide behind a different title to distance themselves.

If it helps, think of them the same as how a “pescatarian” pretends to be a vegetarian. They’re a carnivore that won’t commit to the title.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pescatarians out here catching strays.

[–] astutemural@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I was a pescatarian for all of like two months. I was in the, 'Ok, it's still bad for the environment, but at least fish are dumber so it's more ethical' phase.

It's useful as a transitory phase into vegetarianism.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

I'm currently in that transitional period. Although I don't think I'll ever give up eggs.

So to extend the analogy, conservatives are nazis that can't commit to the title?

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Only a dream of your winning, as usual

[–] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 week ago

Tl;dr: Massive dipshit is mad other massive dipshit is another kind of stupid. It's like a hippie anti-vaxxer being big mad at a religious one for insulting their crystals.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 23 points 1 week ago

The Libertarian party rejected RFK and officially nominated Chase Oliver for 2024, because actual right wing liberals-that-want-slaves-and-child-brides know a kook when they see one.

Tldr Skill issue, as always.

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 week ago

It’s amazing that these fucking liars get to have stories printed out about them as some bullshit sympathy piece

[–] AtariDump@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago
[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

no, you wernt swindled, you know hes a scam artists, and you allowed yourself to be scammed to feel good. why do you think conservative people fall for scams all the time, they believe they can get rich or something out of it, even if they have a high chance of not getting anything, and they would keep going for the same scam, because they think it will be different or he was kidding.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Morgen Mogus, Parker, Pennsylvania

Great. Another Pennsyltucky moron.

Given how uninformed he is, perhaps it would be best if he just sat out all the elections.

[–] etherphon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

If only there were some evidence that this man was a COMPULSIVE LIAR before, we could have been spared. Oh well.

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The only thing Trump did do was pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, which I am very grateful for,

R... really?

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

He promised he would to the Libertarian Party for their votes, at a major Libertarian rally/meeting which he was the VIP guest of before the election.

What's really shocking is that he actually followed through on his promise.

Weird that this was their big ask, though: pardon the international darkweb drug website guy, because freedom means I put whatever I like in my body with no regulations; be that a fairly harmless bag of weed or deadly research drugs from China or Russia. Why not, say.. Federal legalisation of weed? Or something else that would benefit them all in their lives..

Nope: 11641

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If the presidential election were held today – with the same candidates – I would sit out.

That's wild. Wanting to turn back time, not in order to make a difference - but in order to avoid making a difference?

[–] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

That's Americ for ya, we think our familiy is all that matters if we have enough money.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

He’s not as bad as promised…how could he!

[–] rodneylives@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

There is absolutely no excuse. It's not like he was an unknown quantity. No amount of disdain is too great for these people.
