General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Getting suspiciously close to "there's a pigeon in your bank account and we just need you to transfer all the money to us so that we can clean your bank account".

It's totally innocent πŸ˜‡.

I'm a member and look forward to getting the procedures in place at conference to prevent this sort of stuff happening again in future.

It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of the founding of a political party that aligns with my values and if it all goes tits up with Your Party I'm glad that Greens will be right there. If it all goes tits up with the Greens we will have Your Party. Both are currently prepared to cooperate electorally (and I'll be voting in favour of this as a member) and I think both parties would vote in favour of a coalition if the time came.

You mean you gave money to Sultana under the assumption she's doing things above board, which was her 2nd round of hoarding money that initial donors gave.

I worry you've fallen for a scam.

Don't let the cynicism get the better of you comrade.

Corbyn does not do coalitions.

[–] oeuf@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago

It won't be up to him. It's not even a given that he will be selected for a leadership role (although he probably will be). Do bear in mind that he compromised on some of his own positions as Labour leader to reflect the membership too.

Right, Corbyn is going to sell off all the decades of honest clout he's gathered from a lifetime career of trying to do the right thing... only to cash out now publiclly for a cool sweet million pounds.

Jesus, BBC, if this was Bojo you'd be kissing his feet at how well he's misappropriated another million to his friends.

Your Party are the Hyperloop to the Greens’ high-speed train: a cockamamie pie-in-the-sky alternative that won’t actually work, except for diverting attention from the real thing that actually exists.

I disagree: I think that having two dedicated democratic socialist parties brings more attention to the movement as a whole and increases its gravity. It also means that if one of the two parties gets clobbered for whatever reason then we are not instantly made politically homeless, like when Corbyn got taken down as Labour leader. When the Your Party launch was fudged we could join the Greens because by then they had emerged as a credible and legitimate leftwing party. The more success we have on the left as a whole the better at this stage IMO.

if one of the two parties gets clobbered for whatever reason

By "whatever reason" you mean Corbyn, right?

[–] oeuf@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 week ago

It could be anything. Scandals and treachery are as old as politics itself and no party is immune to it.

Well this is awkward.

So, hang on, Sultana has basically run two rounds of scamming donations that she has then withheld??

This story is about initial donations made at the start of the group's founding, while more recently she set up her own donation portal for everyone to register for paid membership.

No, as in both cases the money was funneled into a company set up by, amongst others, a J Corbyn. Neither Corbyn nor Sultana control this company, and the claimed intent was to make the funds independent of the party politburo. Or something.

[–] Tweak@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Did you read the article?? The board of the company managing all of the initial investments resigned en masse, leaving Sultana as the sole director of the company that has all that money. Literally the 3rd fucking paragraph:

While Your Party was being formally registered, the money was collected by MoU Operations Ltd - which is now run by Sultana.

She also has sole control of the membership money, as she set that up herself without input from Corbyn.
