This is the modern method of getting answers from people on the internet.

If you want an answer to something, anything that you are thinking of .... just confidently post the wrong answer somewhere and you will receive more than enough right answers from people who know.

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Well ackshually, that isn’t the best method…

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It's the ones who only think they know that worry me.

It's called Murphy's Law. The best way to get an answer is not to ask the question but to say the wrong answer.

I’ve never been so delighted to play along!

Cunningham's Law states "the best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer."

Fun fact: that Cunningham is Ward Cunningham, the man who invented the concept of a wiki.

Murphy didn't need to shave, dummy, it was a genetic thing

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

He was actually an ancient 14th century Aztec warlord, he, uh, didnt use it for shaving.

Murphy is the anglicized version of his name-wasnt discovered until america annexed the top half of California. Which is weird because he was discovered near what is now the Oregon border.

[–] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Correct. It was for performing circumcisions.

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The Aztecs actually invented it, and only thousands of years later did it filter over to a Jewish tribe they traded closely with, many anthropologists now believe.

This whole thread is making me uncomfortable. Also, it was the Mayans.

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

The two cultures didnt diverge until after this event, so im calling them Aztecs even though they were actually all Olmecs, who we know a lot more about than the precolumbian history of the Aztec and Mayan cultures.

We're gonna learn so much when someone who knows about the topic reads this.

Hanlon's law

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, there is absolutely nothing incorrect in your statement!

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I heard an interview with a former FBI counterintelligence officer who said the fastest way to get information out of someone is an incorrect presumptive statement.

So "you seem like you were born in early March by your spirit shape" more often than you'd expect leads to "June 28th dumbass".

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why do people born on June 28th so often have a spirit shape that looks like people born in early March?

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 4 points 2 weeks ago

It's the day of Stonewall, so there are loads of pride marches, but also it was the last day of the first battle of Seoul in 1950 so the soul was slightly too early

[–] scintilla@crust.piefed.social 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Could probably also just ask one of those people for help in the future so you dont have to risk breaking something to get help lmao. Out of all the places I've heard this said the gym is the wildest to me because genuinely so many people there are willing to help someone who asks.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

It's a deceptively supportive environment, but it's awesome when it happens. I remember helping a dude on bench and then he helped with my form on squats.

[–] Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A gym where people talk to you? No thanks. I've been going to my current gym, which is quite busy, for 6 years. Nobody has even made eye contact yet. Good times.

Fyi if you're anxious or shy or whatever the gym is the place for you, nobody will bother you at all, generally. Very easy to disappear in the crowd, even if you're funny looking or something.

[–] dogs0n@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe if you wear headphones(?) like most people, then you might not get bothered or whatever (so if you really don't want to be talked to, wear headphones or go late?).

Honestly though, it's kinda nice when every now and then someone asks for a spot and you have a nice small interaction, but maybe that's just me cuz it forces me to face my social fears.

[–] lemmyng@piefed.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's how crossfit started.

[–] Baguette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Literally the only time people talk to me is when they want to ask how many sets I have left

Most of the people in my gym are just average people though, not like a gold gym or anything.

[–] VoidBorn@lemmings.world 3 points 1 week ago

Difference is the personal trainer isn't full of shit.

[–] Nomorereddit@lemmy.today -4 points 2 weeks ago

With the risk of injury this is stupid x 1000. Theres those who have had a serious injury training or spotting and those not yet there.

I mean just use ai and double check w bodybuilding.com .
