Cheney dies, Mamdani wins, best Tuesday in a while

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 44 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This was starting to sound like the next rendition of "we didn't start the fire"

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

As the Fall Out Boy version of it says...

We didn't start the fire

It was always burning since the world's been turning

We didn't start the fire

No, we didn't light it but we're trying to fight it

[–] JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I totally thought those were the lyrics in the original until now

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

Nope! They're different on purpose, symbolizing that Fall Out Boy still has hope for the future. My GOATs.

You could probably do a 21st century cover. Enough random crap has happened over the last 25 years that there's probably more than enough content.

Fall Out Boy already did it back in 2023! And yes, it's awesome. And they alter a bit of the lyrics of the chorus to give it a more hopeful tone!

I like how California has a proposition thing and Texas politicians just do it. Just kidding, I don't like that.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I like that it make republicans seem less legitimate, they do dictator shit while California has to ask for permission, making California's response look much more legitimate.

[–] miked@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

Don't forget California's response has a built in timer.

Now all you need is to get rid of the moldy orange

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

More than that but its a start. Getting kamala not as president, ridding of the tech bro billionairs aso

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 51 points 2 weeks ago

Damn, this is a stylish as hell post. This is the first post I've seen on my Lemmy feed about Mamdani's victory, and I love that. This is like a more joyful version of when diligent Wikipedians edit a repugnant person's article to use "was" promptly after their death

Hell yeah!! Having a drink to celebrate from Ontario, Canada. Hopefully he can inspire other politicians and show that the true left exists and can win elections

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

... also push back against the communist / socialist trope that they steal from everyone.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago

Whoa. He got, not a plurality, but a majority.

Against basically all the money in the US, he got more than half of voters to agree on something.

That's telling.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago

Mamdani is elected mayor, and Dick Cheney fucking croaks. Today is excellent.

[–] KnowledgeableNip@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you, NYC. We all needed this.

I raise my caipirinha glass to New Yorkers all the way from Brazil! Keep spitting in the fascists' faces!

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I had a caipirinha once back in 2011. I think about it fondly.

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 14 points 2 weeks ago
