Fan fiction has entered the chat...

Sure, but stay with me here, how about keeping the writers room on for long enough to finish the story as text, it's gotta be pretty cheap good will. I for one would be grudgingly accepting of that as an alternate until the streaming late stage capitalism shitshow realizes that while the quarterly might go up, killing shows willy nilly also kills networks long term. But, wish in one hand, spit in the other and see which fills up first. Sigh, Almost Human was gold.

long term

They do not understand this concepr, but you will need to report to the camps for being a filthy commie.

Firefly got a wrap up though with Serenity. Satisfying or not is a point of debate but it at least was given the chance to wrap up its narrative.

No shit there's actually more?? I'll be on the lookout for that

Prepare to experience both highs and lows, like a leaf on the wind.

Don't watch the movie friend. Or watch it, and rewatch the series and don't watch it a second time.

Yea, but that took a MASSIVE grass roots campaign and a few years to get it to happen. Plenty of people still experienced this at the time.

The OA will forever be one of the most tragic for me, because they apparently had a 5 season run completely planned out. I still think the first 2 are worth watching, or at the very least just the first one still works incredibly well standalone, but I would have loved to see what they had in mind.

I don't agree, there's a lot more they could do with that planet or the company that crashed them there.

But those stories concluded. Felt like the most interesting stuff was worked out. More would've been a totally different thing with different vibes.

I just finished watching the first season of Kaos, such a beautiful show with fantastic actors and then I realized that Netflix cancelled it

[–] OmegaMouse@pawb.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I was surprised (and very annoyed) by this one! It was well reviewed and seemed to be popular. Why the hell did they cancel it?

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

It didn't immediately jump to the top of the charts in the first five minutes after being released. Duh

Who tf cancels Jeff Goldblum as Zeus?!

Wait until they are at least three or four seasons in or it isn't worth watching.

Cruciate (not that it should have been continued. B5 never needed a spinoff anyway)

Almost Human. I dont remember a ton of details about the show, but I remember that it had nearly movie quality production value, incredible for a TV show, and I was really bummed when it was cancelled. But like all the other Fox sci-fi shows before it, Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Doll House, etc. before it, Fox doesnt know how to keep popular sci fi shows alive for more than a couple seasons. Not since the X-Files. The exception is The Orville, I guess, with its 3 seasons, but that show hasn't had a dependable production since the very start.

Fox doesnt know how to keep popular sci fi shows alive for more than a couple seasons.

This is a deliberate strategy, not an error on the business end. Younger actors/directors making shorter production runs in an untested medium are cheaper to employ than serial successes. Friends is a great example of this. Early on, the cast was earning in the high five figures for their work. By season seven, they were getting a million dollars an episode each.

Rather than make one enduring long-run sitcom, you produce a dozen different short-run knock-offs. The uncertainty gives your production company leverage and keeps actors from demanding increased salaries season to season. And with the idea of "syndication" dead in the age of streaming, you never end up paying out a ton in residuals for a show (like Firefly) that has a cult following but a weak initial contract.

Fringe got 5 seasons and ended well while being a Fox product.

Literally the only one I can think of. I did love that show.

Counterpart. I've just started watching it and realised it got cancelled after one season. Hope it finishes without a bunch of unanswered questions and plot lines.
