Hey All, this fall I've been putting some Cinnamon in my coffee and enjoyed it so far. What other spices or combos have you tried and liked? Anyone sell specific spice blends?

Cardamom. I'm not personally a fan, but it's fairly popular in Turkey for example.

I adore cardamon in coffee. Also cocoa nibs, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise and vanilla on rare occasion.

I make a homemade kalua using ethiopian cold brew, homemade booze and a vanilla bean.

I love anis in warm milk... Now I HAVE to try it in my coffee (anis, not milk)

In many parts of the Middle East and North Africa, coffee often has cardamom either mixed in with the beans or added during brewing. If you like cinnamon in your coffee, you’ll probably like cardamom. But start with a tiny bit, a little goes a long way. The brewing process is also different than methods you may be used to, but is pretty easy to learn. Look up Arabic coffee or qahwa for instructions.

I had cardamom in coffee once and it tasted horrible. I didn't even know it was a thing.

Nutmeg. Actually, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, aniseeds go well in cacao, too.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Second on the nutmeg for me. My wife is a cinnamon person.

In short, pumpkin spice

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

A tiny pinch of salt. Tea or coffee.

Not technically a spice, but generally used as such.

I had this with a perculator in an old engineering office, the IT guy would add a pinch of salt to the cheap coffee the company bought. It gave the pot of coffee less of a bitter taste and felt smoother in the mouth

I might try black pepper. Are you adding heat or flavour?

Update: I just tried black pepper. It's actually quite pleasing and complimentary. Not as nice as cardamon, but it is a solid complimentary flavour.

Black pepper gives a warm taste, cinnamon comes across more spicy and 'sharp'.

There's a world of hot sauces out there, too.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

-looks in fridge- TRUE! But those have many additives that influences the taste

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, delicious additives.

interesting no one's said Chicory yet.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Isn't chicory a replacement for coffee instead of added to it?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

it's a big thing to add to coffee in New Orleans in the US, but I experienced it in coffee because my (Polish) grandfather made it that way when I was growing up in Europe

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

That's cool!

[–] crmsnbleyd@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's a huge additive to coffee in India, you usually get a 3:7 chicory to coffee ratio

[–] sqw@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

chicory is often added to coffee for flavor

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 weeks ago

No, it is added to make coffee cheaper.

[–] zout@fedia.io 1 points 3 weeks ago

I've seen people add it to coffee. Only older people though (and I'm not young myself).

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago

Okay hear me out tho.

Spiders in coffee.

[–] Zeppo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

Cardamom is interesting. You could also try nutmeg and vanilla.

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

Cayenne and cocoa powder

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

Dated a girl whose mom used to add rosemary to the brew basket, it was horrible. She loved it. They were from Malta so maybe that's a thing there.

[–] fritobugger2017@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

I use a cinnamon stick in the cup getting the pour over when I have really shitty beans. Remove and reuse the stick as needed.

[–] Delta_V@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

a small bit of cardamom can be good too

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

Orange peel, anise, cloves, cinnamon, and brown sugar work really well together.

[–] bigboismith@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I like to add some black tea, about a quarter of the amount of coffee. Adds a lot of aroma, while not disrupting the taste of the coffee

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I really like cinnamon

[–] leriotdelac@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

When I use a Turkish pot, I add a little of salt and pepper, cinnamon and a bit of cardamon. But generally, it's great to experiment with coffee!
