@shadow@lemmy.ca made the following updates this week.

For lemmy.ca:

For piefed.ca:

We have a guide about the frontends here: https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/lemmy/for-users/alternative-uis

We haven't updated the guide with these recent changes yet. In the meantime, you can learn more about Photon and Blorp in these communities:

Both frontends have support for multiple accounts. You can also log in to other instances (not lemmy.ca / piefed.ca) if you wanted to.

Enjoy!

This is a really nice announcement post! For anyone new to Blorp, I’m the dev. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any bugs/suggestions.

Thank you for your work! I didn't know about Blorp until this post, it looks amazing.

Edit: one thing I just noticed is when I log in, it gave me an error message saying I had an incorrect login but then refreshed to a logged in state with my account. (in other words it worked fine to log in, it just flashed me that message anyway.) I'm in win10 with Firefox 144 (64bit) if that's important.

Edit 2: Just tried again, worked fine and no message now.

Not exactly sure what the issue was here, but I did just discover a bug where you have to manually refresh the page to load your user. I’m fixing it so it will automatically fetch your user after login, without the need for manual reload. I’ll keep an eye out for the error you mentioned.

Maybe it was just a glitch on my end... it only did it the very first time I logged in and hasn't done it since. Otherwise everything seems solid so far.

Thank you for creating it and maintaining it!

I've been trying it out and it's nice :)

One thing that bugs me when using Blorp on my desktop is that I can't right-click on an image to copy it to the clipboard, can we improve on that?

Thanks :)

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yes! Nice to see someone is using the desktop app. No idea how many people prefer that installation method.

Ott er Ott er Ott er - me chanting, every time I see you post friend! Great share, thanks! Never thought that by my 40s I'd be saying stuff like, I'm sad I'm not Canadian.

Is piefed another beast like lemmy or is it like mastodon where we as lemmy can participate/read?

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 weeks ago

It's very similar to Lemmy, and probably the closest to Lemmy out of the other platforms that follow this format.

We tried to describe the differences here

https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/fedecan/our-platforms#forum-style

These platforms follow a forum format, similar to platforms like Reddit or Hacker News. You can share and discuss links, text, and images, and upvote/downvote content to decide on what content rises to the top.

These platforms use one of two projects under the hood:

  • Lemmy - Lemmy is an established and stable project. It was designed to be very fast and reliable, and it makes up a large part of the forum side of the Fediverse
  • Piefed - Piefed is a relatively new project that is growing in popularity. It offers new ways to organize content, such as topic lists, feeds, flairs, and additional moderation tools.

As they're both federated, you can use any of them to connect to the wider Fediverse!

[–] Xylight@lemdro.id 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's part of the fediverse, and it's very similar to Lemmy--you can interact with it pretty transparently. You almost certainly have interacted with Piefed communities, posts, and users.

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

indeed. i’m on piefed with blorp.

[–] Vex_Detrause@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Oh good! Thank goodness to fediverse. I thought we are silo-ed from each other.

[–] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Wow awesome!

Thank you for updating with these front ends. It really helps provide some nice front end experiences for both Lemmy/Piefed. Been using photon for awhile with piefed but will give blorp a spin too.

Thanks again for everything you guys are doing for us.
