Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

"Check where my people are going so that I might lead them there."

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 56 points 4 weeks ago

Exactly. This wasn't an endorsement, it was a concession.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

That is a great expression. Is that a quote?

[–] PumpkinEscobar@lemmy.world 12 points 4 weeks ago

It’s used in The West Wing. Also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandre_Auguste_Ledru-Rollin suggests it’s not really something he said

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I think it's one of those apocryphal quotes that gets misattributed to different people. Most commonly Ledru-Rollin, as Pumpkin Escobar mentioned.

The reason Dems are doing this is clear.

If Mamdani wins they can go “we endorsed him, he won because of the backing of the party”

If Mamdani loses they can go “see, we told you that we need to pivot further right. We told you. We didn’t sabotage him, we endorsed him for goodness sake”

Withhold endorsement and throw mud in the water all the way up to the end then try to slap a last minute endorsement on there so they can absolve themselves of any blame and pretend like the “time to vote left is the primaries” like they won’t ratfuck you after you win the primary.

[–] Bennyboybumberchums@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Which is why people need to keep on being reminded that the Dems are not the saviours they present themselves to be. They are just the other side of the same coin the republicans are. And they are all in the business of keeping themselves fat, and the voters at each others throats.

Fingers crossed, that Mamdani is the start of a stream of actual progressives in politics. America is in desperate need of something, anything, to spark some change that gets its out of being right wing vs right wing.

no one thinks they’re the saviors. **But they aren’t the fascists. **

they are definitely, starkly different from the Republicans - you don’t recognize any differences?

People need to keep being reminded that staying home or voting for jackasses like jill Stein, leads to the Republican Party winning.

About fkn time. Not that Zohran needed his endorsement. Hakeem I imagine is covering his ass now but will do everything he can behind the scenes to oppose him.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 19 points 4 weeks ago

Hakeem knows he has to.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 4 weeks ago

I said a month ago that last minute endorsements don't count, and the window closes in mid-October. I see no reason to change this. Jefferies can get bent.
