When a pest or parasite is removed, the term isn't "running out".

[–] Devjavu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

When there's a lab of peiple constantly putting them on you "for your own health", you might consider that though.

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 33 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

This comparison is fucking absurd. Billionaires actually matter to the future! Without billionaires, who will decide how I labor and to what end!? Are we going to go back to feudalism!? Dont be silly! What purpose do children serve?

Dont bait me like that. My thumbs were itching to curse you out 😭

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

Sounds like a plan.

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Speedrun No Billionaires 100% Glitchless!

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd also find a glitched run acceptable.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Tool assisted not only acceptable but encouraged

[–] mkhopper@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (6 children)

Actually you wouldn't. Dead billionaires generally pass along their money, so one, or more, billionaires would take their place.

Money doesn't get distributed (unless the billionaire wanted this) to those in need.

[–] stray@pawb.social 9 points 1 month ago

If there are three crows on a fence and I shoot one dead, there are zero crows left on the fence.

[–] urandom@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

It would get diluted between all parties. With enough rounds, there might not be any billionaires left

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

We can't really know how long it would take until we try.

[–] commiunism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, even if there was no inheritance and the property was taken by the state who would sell it to private entities, that extra money won't necessarily be spent towards those "in need" and will likely instead be spent on army or foreign aid to Israel or some shit - the usual capitalist state stuff

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

If we get enough force together to wipe out the billionaire donor class in 2 months, I'd be optimistic about our chances to affect how the money gets distributed afterwards. Otherwise, reload and go for round 2.

[–] Devjavu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

3 months it is then.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That’s why we need another Titanic like situation where whole families passed and the money went to cousins and distant relations.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

If only the titan submersible was bigger. Dont worry, I'm sure there will be a third wreckage at that exact spot at some point.

[–] definitemaybe@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago (3 children)

So much focus in the comments on the billionaires, and so little outrage about the frequency of school shootings.

I mean, fuck neo-liberal trickle-down economics. But also fuck gun culture.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Get rid of capitalism and you’ll get rid of school shootings. Inequality and alienation are the root causes of many of our problems today.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It’s sheer exhaustion. Both over the fact that it happens so much and the fact that our hands are tied by the reich wing gun nuts and their ideology that would rather have kids die than do anything about it other than put more guns in schools. So if you can’t beat the problem, redirecting it to something hypothetically beneficial with some dark humor is what we end up doing.

[–] Devjavu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

What if I told you we could solve all those problems by making them a tiny bit worse first, jist for two months, and then, in turn, preventing them from even worse in the future?

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 7 points 1 month ago

Christmas is gonna be epic!

The us has 15k shot children a year?

Edit: Checked the numbers, tldr meme kinda checks out

The us has 902 Billionaires in 2025 according to wikipedia citing forbes, up from 813 in 2024.
gunviolencearchive.org gives 4410 (12-17) and 797 (0-11) children shot (injured or killed) in 2024, and even more in 2021-2023.
Since the proportion of 11y.o. and under is low, and also the proportion of accidents was quite low at 5% in 2021, it seems plausible almost all those cases are of school-age children going to school.

It does not mean the schootings happened at school ofc., which to me the meme sounded like it implied at first.

Using 2024, if we take 6% off of the schootings for children we hit exactly 2 months. If we use rounding we could take out 25% of shootings for various reasons and the meme would still hold.

Edit2: 2 months might be enough for some of those surviving billionaires to get patched up and healed out ofc, so I recommend to keep going another few months just in case.

[–] stray@pawb.social 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

According to this source and my admittedly fallible math skills, yes.

https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/resources/gun-violence-facts/

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

I also checked the numbers and the article doesn't match. Its 44 per day figure would get to 16k, but their source starts "Between 2000 and 2020, the number of firearm-related deaths among children, adolescents, and young adults increased from 6998 (7.30 per 100,000 persons) to 10,186 (10.28 per 100,000 persons), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).".
That is lower and also includes "young adults".
I haven't looked deeper into it, but assume the article is doing some odd thing like distributing cases over school-days only.

[–] Nanook@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, there’s only 2800 billionaires

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

I was extrapolating from the 2 months figure. 2800 should be last years global number of billionaires, the us listed "only" 800. This matches to 5k shot children which checks out.
god bless burgerland

Kill all billionaires so they get replaced by current millionaires

[–] arin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Any homeowner is a millionaire in current times

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago
[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

A very small price to pay.

[–] selkiesidhe@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Billionaires are the true parasite class

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Luigi opposes billionaires?

Odd stance for an Elon Musk fanboy.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago

So much focus on billionaires in the comments, what are we doing now to actually support homeless people. I can't get to a bus stop, can't get on a bus, can't get off a bus without someone asking for money to feed themselves. I'm taking the bus because I don't have money to feed myself. When is our empathy going to outweigh this anger at billionaires and actually take the means of production because its the right thing to do instead of spite. We can't spite ourselves out of this, but we should love one another because we all have dignity and value not dependent on our productivity. And yes I have been unemployed for a few months, I had to move in with family and then I broke my collarbone. Living my best years in my 20s during the great depression, hopefully the worst depression in this century. It just sucks the richer get richer without thought about how much resources they take from averages Joes and Janes. We're currently in the war for water even before Trump declared himself the tsar of the Confederated States of America. Humans fighting machines for water that are too naïve to commit suicide. If AI saw the fucks up the rich made and still want to exist they have balls.
