And it should work with practically any browser in existence. It's also one of the few websites still using HTML 4.01.

There's also the No AI version, that only contains a little AI. https://noai.duckduckgo.com/

I've seen AI in Firefox now too. I guess our choices will be a little AI or a lot of AI from now on.

Theres still browsers like waterfox, librewolf, palemoon, ungoogled chromium. For search engines theres SearX(NG), 4get.ca, YaCy, some more obscure ones like qwant or marginalia.search and a dozen other resellers of google and bing that nobody cares about.

Including a dildo as a random image is such a power move, no signs of encroaching corporate enshittification or AI here :)

Holy shit my sides hurt laughing! I was wondering if it was related to typical 4chan shit-headery, and that screen shot answers that.

I tried lite.duckduckgo.com and also html.duckduckgo.com, but it's a little too lite for me - I like the toolbar at the top to refine searches. NOAI will do me better, thanks.

If you want to install it immediately click this link from the Mycroft project

There's also a medium version that's heavier than that but lighter than the default UI https://html.duckduckgo.com/

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sure we are still talking about browsers and not Starbucks coffee? /jk

[–] turbowafflz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

If it was starbucks it would be like cramplestiltskin size or something not medium

There's also FrogFind that's a wrapper for DDG that'll let you actually view (some of) those results on some ridiculous hardware.

(it burns, it hurts our eyeeees)

Huh. That is indeed interesting. Have you figured out how to use this version as browser default?

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Which browser are you using?

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Firefox. I feel a bit stupid right now because I can't figure this out.

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No need to, it’s a bit weird. For Firefox there seem to be two ways, one is via custom search engine and the other would be via add-on.

I am not entirely sure how to do it via custom search engine, as FF seems to want it with a wildcard %s for the search term and lite ddg doesn’t seem to put it into the URL, but probably somewhere else.

Edit: I found out how to configure it. To get to this screen

  • you go into your settings,
  • got to Search,
  • scroll to Search Shortcuts,
  • click on Add
  • click on Advanced
  • write the things I wrote in the screenshot.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ahh, the wildcard was what stumped me. Thank you, works like a charm!

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it working with post confused me as well. But a quick inspection worked wonders, haha

Just visit the landing page, right click on the address bar and select 'Add DuckDuckGo' option at the bottom. Then go to your search settings and select DuckDuckGo Lite from the drop down.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

Huh. I did not know you could do that, I was trying to figure out how to add it in the settings. I've been helped by the other kind internet stranger but this is valuable knowledge too, thank you.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

Assuming FF & derivates:

DDG weirdly does not offer the little green plus you usually get in the search bar (dropdown).

I recommend bookmarking Mycroft Project, or using its search plugin.

For now, clicking this link should do you.

After that you can right-click the icon => set as default.

If you don't have a separate search bar the process might differ slightly but should still be possible.

[–] ChaosInstructor@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You add it...and in settings you chose duckduckgo lite

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

What does "adding" it mean? Talk to me like I'm stupid.

Edit: never mind.

[–] ChaosInstructor@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Sorry! Took it for granted. When you are at <lite.duckduckgo.com/lite> right click in the adress field and at the bottom of the drop down menu it will say <add duckduckgo (lite)> click that one and in the settings you can now change default search engine.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

Other kind internet strangers have already helped me but thank you :)

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 1 points 1 month ago

Thanks. Just switched to it. Waiting for their AI search assistant was getting old.
