I knew grabbing cheap games for my potato-computer would pay off one day! Got it off Facebook for $140

Someone call the police as 140$ for such a great device is a steal.

I paid 300$ for mine and I’m almost not using my Playstation 5 anymore, except for really demaning games and Sim Racing.

It also allowed me to sell my Switch and its games for 239$, so you could say I paid 61$ for my LCD Deck with 256gb😅

I bought the OLED new (ouch!) and it's heavily used...exclusively at work. It's just one of those jobs with way too much idle time. Cabin fever will set in without hobbies. I read books a TON buut it's in cycles. Gaming right now. South Park Stick of Truth finished this set and I'm starting Fractured But Whole tonight because it was $3.50 on Autumn sale. The combat is worse but I love it so far anyways.

Is that pink or metallic sheen?

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The picture does not do it justice

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

It looks nice

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

It's like a metallic pink sticker thing

Oh noes! You have caught the communism now!

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

HEAVENS NO! What will the neighbors think of me hobnobbing with such kind!?

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Too late! Next thing you'll be installing Arch on your granny's computer and wearing UNIX socks.

Well right now I'm using fedora on my Chromebook & wondering why i3blocks is being bullshit. 😂

That's an amazing deal!

My steam deck's screen has sadly stopped working, I think it's because I used a wrong charger. The deck itself works fine, but only with an external screen.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Hard to imagine a "wrong charger" doing that unless it's a piece of unregulated cheap Chinese crap

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's the only thing I could think of. One day it was working fine, I hooked it up to a charger (grabbed the wrong wire, not the official one, but a 5v one), and the next day, the screen didn't turn on anymore, but the Deck itself still works, when I attach it to a screen.

You can send it to steam to get it repaired

I second this. My experience with Steam support for a broken Steam Deck (white OLED) was outstanding.

They sent me a full replacement, brand new, also white OLED (after you couldn't buy them anymore). I was amazed.

Steam is an amazing company. Probably the best company in terms of customer support in the U.S. many businesses could learn from them. There is hardly anyone who has a bad thing to say about them.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's crazy how much goodwill a company can garner just by treating customers well.

Not a coincidence that Valve never went public.

[–] DarkAri@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

Yes they also bring billions in taxes back into the U.S economy.

I tried to open it up, but one of the screws refuses to be removed, I'm looking for the least destructive method to remove it :)

[–] DarkAri@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 month ago

You need to use the right screwdriver. Not one that's close but the right one. This applies to everything. Don't damage your screws! Buy an Ifixit kit and pick up random screwdrivers when you have some extra money.

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There's a sort of order from least to most destructive:

Exactly correct driver >
using an elastic band or other thin piece of rubber, between driver and screw, for grip >
different screwdriver that fits differently (e.g. a small flat driver in any cross-headed screw) >
again, with elastic/rubber >
other, unlikely drivers >
other grippy options, like steel wool >
superglue the driver to the screw >
epoxy resin a driver to the screw >
cut a new flat-head into the screw head with a dremel >
use a screw extracting bit >
drill out the screw head >
cut or drill out the plastic surround

I'm sure there's other options I've not remembered. A lot of it depends on which screw is stuck, and how accessible it is.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

The screws are also self tapping in case you didn't know, can be destructive putting them back in without being careful lol. Good luck.

As soon as I got a steamdeck this year, I started kicking myself for every game I had bought on console T_T. I've got plenty of steam games, too, but I never had a particularly "good" gaming PC until the deck, just laptops

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Same here. The deck is the best computer I've ever had.
