As someone who witnessed the Golden and Silver age of the internet, I have since forever been a techno-optimist, . But these days...

... let's just hope those aliens are real, and will start the culling from the top down.

Unfortunately anything capable of interstellar travel is beyond anything earth can offer, even as a place to live. The only truly unique things we have are our biosphere and culture, both of which can be sampled covertly.

Yeah, but let's hope they take pity on us ~~in the same way we take pity on ants~~ as benevolent gods

I still am, but there is no optimism under a capitalist system that is fundamentally designed to be exploitative. Anything built under this system, regardless of the possibilities, will always wind up being co-opted and controlled by capitalist interests, thus fundamentally turning them into exploitative tools of oppression.

It's absolutely intentional that tech bros stopped openly using the "move fast and break things" phrase. Sounds more violent and generally objectionable than "disrupt".

Eh, I’d welcome better payment processes in health care. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve been past due even though I had the money, just cuz the payment portal is a mess.

I just ignore everyone until I get the final notice. Fuck them they will get my money at the last possible moment.

Bassett in NY did ya one better. They contracted with a debt collection company for all bill processing and the payment portal is a total mess.
