  1. it was a sniper. It's on video. NSFW

  2. Cash Patel, the incompetatnt FBI director, announced multiple times they had apprehended the shooter. One of the arrests was a random with a bb-gun.

  3. Real shooter turned themselves in. Or at least their maga parents did.

  4. Shooter wasn't trans, leftist, or politically motivated. He was part of a nihilistic online group that tldr wants to watch the world burn.

#4 isn't definite yet. There's a lot of contradictory evidence on that

[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Very true. Lots of people jumping to lots of convenient conclusions at the expense of nuance on this one.

The thing with communicating in memes is that they reduce actual ideas so deeply that the same one meme can start in a space on one end of the political spectrum and, by way of obscured context, later be picked up by the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

There is evidence that he leaned right, and there is evidence that he leaned left. There're bits and pieces that imply he wasn't really fully aligned with either, as well. Without the proper context to weigh these things with, it is basically impossible to tell what his true motivations were. For now, at least. As more information comes to light, it will become easier to tell what this was all about, as is generally how things work.

So, anyone saying they know for certain what he stood for before definitive evidence surfaces is either lying through their teeth or has simply been misinformed. Remember to take it all with salt, people. Jumping to conclusions won't help a thing.

This is why outsiders see the US politics as two cults. They're very very eager to frame any "bad guy" as the opposing team. They'll try to shoehorn it everywhere to make it stick. Conflicting evidence be damned.

While I agree we don't know everything yet, it's kind of infuriating to have one side -the side who has been responsible for what? 80% of political violence in the past decade,- immediately start calling for violence and retribution, while the other side says "you know, maybe the side spewing hateful rhetoric non-stop is partly responsible...."

Blackpill Aesthetics: A Crash Course in Meme Extremism

All accounts of this guy indicate he wasn't political in real life. From his grandma to his friends at highschool.

Given his online activity, I'm more convinced by the theory that he was nihilistically lashing out than enacting a politically motivated plan.

jesus, say what you want about the tenants of national socialism...atleast it's an ethos...

Re point 3 - the version I read went like this:

  • Robinson's dad saw the pics and thought he recognised his son
  • He asked the son about it and eventually he confessed to the dad
  • The dad then told a family friend
  • The family friend told the police, possibly at the Dad's request
[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I had heard the dad asked a religious leader (pastor, maybe?) what he should do after his son admitted it to him, and it was the pastor that actually turned him in.

[–] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Yeah, same person, I think.

[–] lordnikon@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

To add the have a bad habit of juat rounding up anyone and saying they have an arrest before they are unable to get a grand jury to indict and having to quietly reclassify to a misdemeanor to save face. Just look what they are doing in DC.

[–] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 10 points 3 months ago

jfc. tyler robinson is alleged to be the shooter. the fbi is mishandling the public presentation of allegations and supposed evidence to produce a narrative effectively biasing the entire public against robinson, mistrialing before he even gets a court date.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 8 points 3 months ago

Evidence he was part of a group that wanted to watch the world burn? You mean the discord channel? Seems to be a largely apolitical gaming group.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

#4 definitely sounds political. Sounds like it would align with Peter Thiel’s ideology perfectly and he’s running the GOP at the moment with all the other oligarchs.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 months ago

#4 is an unfounded claim based on a misinterpretation of the markings on the bullet casings.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

From the outside looking in, totally. The fundamental difference is the "after" phase.

I'm not familiar with Thiel's idealology but I'm certain that if he's advocating some sort of societal collapse, it's a means to build a different society that replaces the current one.

Groyper/blackpill is more nihilistic. They have no plans beyond accelerating societal demise for their twisted amusement.

Blackpill Aesthetics: A Crash Course in Meme Extremism

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Thiel would 100% agree with and help blackpilleds because their goal would accelerate his own goal even if they don’t have the same ideology.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Exactly. Thiel has a goal beyond destroying the status quo. Blackpilled nihilists just enjoy the feeling of power and relevance they get from accelerating societal decline.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

Blackpills are useful idiots.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Or at least their maga parents did.

I've heard it was ironically the trans roommate who turned him in. Is this not true anymore?

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Are you being sarcastic?

I mean I heard the shooter saw a trans person on TV once. So...

Sounds like everyone in his life knew before the rest of us. His mother and father recognized him from the fbi photos.

The mtf you reference was his girlfriend and he tipped her off via a piece of paper

Article also says he was using his granpdas unique rifle which his dad recognized.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 25 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

When Kirk was shot an old man jumped up and said he did it because apparently he wanted to help the shooter get away but they weren't connected as far as we know (that guy ended up having child porn or something on his phone I think weirdly enough) Then police grabbed another person who they thought looked similar to the shooter, but wasn't him.

The shooter went home and eventually confessed to his father that it was him so his father contacted a local ex deputy friend and they brought him in. He was technically a sniper I guess, he used a rifle with a scope and I believe the distance he shot from was not insignificant.

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

What's this with the cp? Knowing the current administration's (bad) definitions, I wouldn't be surprised if he just had a pro trans meme or something

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 11 points 3 months ago

Authorities said an investigation into Zinn led to the discovery of explicit material on his phone, including more than 20 images of children between the ages of 5 and 12. Court records also cite graphic messages in which Zinn admitted to being aroused by the material.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 5 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Unless I'm mixing two articles I read recently, the old man that claimed he was actually the shooter had pictures of little girls in underwear on his phone

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's correct. He allegedly told the cops that children turn him on.

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 months ago

I kind of want to ask for the source but also this is not a person we collectively need to pay attention to. I like the distraction he made but if he's despicable outside that then he can get fucked but it also has nothing to do with me

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The distance (~200m) was an average shot for anyone who shoots rifles of the type used, like deer hunters.

Anyone who thinks the shooter was aiming for the neck is wrong, the best target would be the chest with that type of rifle so it probably hit a little higher than intended.

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 months ago

I’m betting the rifle is zeroed at 100 yards and he went for an MLG pro gamer headshot. 30-06 zeroed at 100 yards has a few inches drop at 160 yards leading to a neck shot.

Truth is always the first victim in any authoritarian political regime.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 4 points 3 months ago

The second being its first allies. Must not have pretenders to the throne.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

The first guy they caught they never let go. They just charged him with having CP and for interference with the law because they claim he claimed responsibility for the shooting when he wasn't involved at all.

They also have Tyler Robinson in custody as the actual suspect who shot Kirk.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wanna see Tyler make that shot again. How did he get so good?

[–] M137@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I see. I thought neck was the target. I don’t shoot rifles so 200 (I heard yards) seems sooooo far.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 5 points 3 months ago

A regime whore shilling current regime's narrative got wacked under "spooky" circumstances, the regime is using his death to galvanize the base and distract from pedo pandemic within the regime ranks.

Normie bootlicker big mad because a bunch of people see this is a sign of progress... at least i is not just school kids getting shot.

Note that that the same day this regime whore was deposed, there was a school shooting but the bootlickers can barely muster up a "thoughts and prayers" all energy is wasted on chimping out about this clown.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

The guy they have in custody allegedly admitted to it over text messages and/or discord to friends.

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

He was killed by the Israelis because he was starting to go off script.
