For centuries, the deep, resonant songs of blue whales have travelled across entire oceans, carrying messages between the planet’s largest creatures. Now, these voices are fading. A new six-year study off California’s coast suggests that marine heatwaves and noise pollution are altering the soundscape of the sea, and scientists warn the silence signals serious trouble.

We've seen how this ends.

spoilerYes, I know it was technically Humpbacks in the movie.

But maybe we’ll at least get transparent aluminum out of it.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

We already have that, was patented in like 1980. It's what bulletproof glass is made from.

We have that; it's what high-end phone screens (among other things) are made of.

Thank you, sorry I missed that.

Why are we putting punk at the end of everything now?

[–] FundMECFS@anarchist.nexus 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This community is on the solarpunk instance.

That doesn't answer the question of why people are doing it

[–] Tiresia@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's because your question is clearly prejudiced so people don't want to be nice to you.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Prejudiced against what? I have no idea what your niche terminology is referring to

-punk is to millenials what -core is to genZ

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I appreciate the effort but that didn't help me much. I've seen both in various contexts before but I can't tell if it means anything specific in either case.

Don’t forget “-gate” was in there somewhere too. Those kind of suffixes and combining forms have been popular the last few decades.
