Occupancy or fire sensor? Or maybe it is a camera and the sign is a lie

It's a camera and stickers like this one of many odd DEFCON traditions. (Security professionals in large numbers is an interesting sight to behold.)

Edit: Unrelated bit of history from the time: This also was the DEFCON where Marcus Hutchins was arrested. The fool come rolling in driving a Lambo for some reason so we kinda figured something was up.

It really captures the zeitgeist of the dystopia. Half of us were worried we'd get 1984, and the other half, Brave New World. While we were fighting, we got a little bit of both. Sure, one's a lot worse than the other. I don't want to "both sides" this issue. Still, getting neither option would have been cool.

Oh we got the whole suite of 20th century dystopias.

Yeah, the people whose brains have been poisoned by far too much money and power tend to see warnings in dystopian fiction as aspirational.

They keep gleefully building the fucking Torment Nexus 🤦

Okay but see i really liked the tormeny nexus series, especially the ending of the first book where the hero is subsumed by the torment nexus, and this just... it just feels like the future, you know? Maybe, if you don't jack off to the torment nexus; you're just a silly no-fun luddite who hates the future and freedom and feudalism and the delicious delicious blood of children and the master race and want labor to be necessary forever, and need to die in the purges?

Did you think of that? Because I thought of that because im special. I'm going to go cry now while i order your death, because you disagreed with me.

sob the torment nexus loves me. The tormemt nexus understands me.

All futures are equally dystopian. Some futures are more equally dystopian than others.

Reminds me of the vaults in Fallout. A sign reading "Hard work is happy work!" Right next to the overseer observation window lol.
