Ngl I thought this was a joke at first

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 19 points 4 months ago

It's not....?

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 43 points 4 months ago

I hate White House Nazis.

Incase anyone is not aware, they used President John F Kennedy's Catholicism against him in campaigns.

I'm not actually sure why they target Catholics. One thing I can think of is that it's Christian Nationalism targeting the group most in common to be separated from Protestants. Another reason is that Catholics, historically, tended to have a bigger social justice (ok, their version of social justice) that wasn't beneficial to conservatives.

I read somewhere that the main tactic in attacking JFK's Catholicism was to say that he'd be the Pope's lackey. They were worried that he'd follow the Pope's orders and not do what's best for Americans. It's kind of funny to think that was a tactic now when the same opposition party managed to vote in a transparent Russian asset.

From what I know the Protestant vs Catholic hate was intense. https://youtu.be/2EQCpQbUrzI

The protestant reformation led to serious conflicts between protestants and Catholics.

So by the founding of the united states there was distrust and conflict between Protestant europe like the English, Dutch, Swiss, and some germans, and catholic Europe like the French, Italians, Spanish, and other Germans. This spilled over into the English colonies where the Quebecois and Marylanders were the only largely catholic demographics, and the Quebecois were subjected to politics. Catholics were seen as loyal to the pope over the crown or republic whichever you were under.

Then you get new American religious movements and early American nationalism. This morphed theological arguments over things like the role of Tradition and religious institutions into accusations of foreigners seduced by the devil in their black mass loyal only to the pope.

He didn’t say that, really, did he?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 66 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I can't find it on his page so I either missed it, he deleted it, or it's fake.

I know this is a meme community but fake tweets should really be marked as such. It can be funny without leading people on

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You're feeling "led on" by a man claiming to be an 850 year old vampire and felt the need to check?

Holy shit this world is doooooooooooomed

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I was not led on, I was verifying its legitimacy. You seem to be under the impression that these are reasonable people and not the cartoonish villains they've shown themselves to be.

In 2025, I'd only be a little shocked if Stephen Miller claimed to be a vampire, either literally or figuratively.

If r/totallyrealtweets is to be believed....

[–] Urfgurgle@reddthat.com 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

No, almost certainly not. Vampires are not actually real, as much as he behaves like one, and I doubt he has the capacity to make a self-aware joke like this. The image is also stamped with "r/totallyrealtweets" in the bottom right.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, he didn't really admit to being an 830 year old vampire.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

That's just what an 830 year old vampire would comment

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago

all of his post are on dark mode by default

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Fuck Miller's safety. He should know no such thing except what the prison offers him.

[–] Brutticus@midwest.social 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is he insane? Protestants are a huge threat to Jewish safety. They can all go fuck right off. He's just trying to stroke evanjo cock.

yes he is, but this is a meme tweet about him also being a vampire concerned about being caught by a vampire hunter.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I love that people think this is real.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Miller is a ghoul, it's very on brand to say ghoulish things.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 1 points 4 months ago
[–] markon@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Good on the Catholics for fighting back. He's a pathetic man.

[–] HotDayBreeze@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Wait, what are the wooden stakes in Catholicism? Is someone vampire hunting Stephen Miller?

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social -1 points 4 months ago (3 children)

American anti-immigration is always against Catholics. Irish, Italians, Poles, and now Hispanics

[–] wunami@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Exclusion_Act

I guess this was about those Chinese Catholics then.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

hey. we hate orthodox christians, too. and jews. basically anyone who's not a white anglosaxon protestant male

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 2 points 4 months ago

We gneed to add the other qualifiers now. They can't have ASD, they must be a ciswoman and cisman, must be straight. Can't be too smart either. Can't have other disabilities or long term disease.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 1 points 4 months ago

Maybe a hundred years ago...... Now it's just about skin color. American Catholics pretending like they're still a stigmatized minority is kinda ridiculous considering the vast majority of the Supreme Court is now Catholic.
